“Lose Yourself” by Eminem is one of the most well-known and
groundbreaking hip-hop songs of the early 2000s. For 12 weeks after its release, it was the number one spot on the charts in the US. It was also the first rap song nominated for the Son of the Year at the Grammy’s and the first to win Best Original Song at the Oscars. One of the most noteworthy things in “Lose Yourself” is the way it highlights Eminem’s incredible skills as a rapper which propelled him to the top of the rapping world. Those same skills combined with raw, aggressive, and powerful lyrics also help with telling a story and conveying a message. The song explains the hardships of the rapper's life and his rise to the top. It revolves around the theme of seizing all opportunities and overcoming any obstacles that come your way. Eminem’s lines “You better lose yourself in the music, the moment You own it, you better never let it go / You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow” have become a mantra for anyone who is striving for success. To conclude I chose this song because I can never get tired of it. It fills me with energy, and it is my go-to song if I need to motivate myself.
