SESSION 5

CASE STUDY 1
DESCRIPTIVE ANALYTICS FOR PRODUCTION LINES
SCENARIO DESCRIPTION
We have 3 production lines producing these brass
fittings. Let’s call them A, B, and C.
Each line is composed of 3 machines in series.

Production rates: are

measured in terms of pieces
produced in 8 hour shift.

Rejection rate: Each machine

has its own rejection rate
SCENARIO DESCRIPTION

Rejection rate of each machine 25 samples of production by each line

PROBLEM FORMULATION

Using descriptive analytics find the following:

Q1. The expected range of parts produced by the entire factory.

Q2. The amount of raw materials required to produce them.

CONCLUSIONS

The Expected production rate of the whole department is 2,348.3 units

The required raw materials to support this production rate is 2,611 units
The Process Yield is 89.94%.
Line B is the most efficient line in terms of process yield while it’s the lowest
ranked in terms of production rate.
