9. Blocking Device
This facility enables the valve operator to maintain a fixed position for the valve disc either open or close
This option is needed when the valve can not be removed from the line and we have the following
problem:
1- The gearbox unit need to be removed to be maintained or motorized and, in this case, if it's removed
the disc will be free to rotate around its axis and this will cause a lot of problems to the flow.
2- Shaft seal is destroyed and leaks under the gearbox unit and needed to be changed.
Solution for both situations is our special design blocking device so we can hold the valve disc in the
position desired till the problem is finished without removing the valve from the pipeline.

by thread rolling which doesn’t lose any material like in the normal thread
cutting methods.

Optional is the MEC Nozzle Check Valve also in two variants with position indicator available:
Nozzle check valve acts so quickly that reflux velocities will be minimized, even in case of extremely
high flow deceleration (e.g. vertical pipeline). This will lead to a smooth decrease of the flow and the
water hammer phenomena will be minimum.

Application:
These types of valves are used in water supply installations to stop the fluid flow in the opposite
direction. The valve closing speed can be adjusted by changing the weight position along the
lever. All of the seals of the valve bearing can easily be replaced. The standard seal material is
EPDM or NBR for water up to 70°C (for gas up to100°C). For higher temperature and other
fluids suitable seal material is available on request.
Corrosion protection:
Body and disc are fully coated with blue coating with minimum 250 micron thickness.

MEC non-return valves with counter weight can be equipped with hydraulic damping system for
adjusting the closing time. With the damping system the opening and closing time can be reduced, and
the water hammer effect can be prevented by reducing the damping time.
Application:
To provide non-slam performance in places where water return through the valve is permitted. A flow
control valve can adjust the opening and closing speed of non-return valve disc.

Product Description
What is a PENSTOCK?
It is a device used to control the flow of running water; it mainly consists of a sort of a sturdy mobile
vertical wall, of various material, that moving up and down into the flow prevents, in part or entirely, the
passage of water.
Every water system requires the installation of different penstocks for a proper operation.
MEC designs, manufactures and supplies a wide range that meets the various needs of interception and
regulation, proposing channel and wall mounted penstocks having dimensions, materials and
characteristics to suit every customer’s request.
All the penstocks are designed according to standards, in particular for the calculation of the force required
for the lifting and the values of the hydraulic seal.

SZ-3 model is a penstock with seal on three sides, i.e. on the low horizontal side and on the two vertical
sides.
It is generally used for installation in channels where it is necessary to intercept and control the flow of
fluid or, in some cases, also for wall installation, for example on the outlet or the inlet of a channel.
When operating, the penstock slides perpendicularly to the direction of the flow and it is moved by the
screw by means of selected control units. The seal is given by the rubber gaskets, in both directions, together
with the wedges that exerting a horizontal thrust on the sealing surfaces only when the penstock is closed,
facilitate the opening and closing of it.
It has been considered the level h1= h x 2 +1000mm.
Available Sizes from 200x200 mm up to 1600x1600 mm.
Frame / Door: Stainless Steel Grade 1.4301 or 1.4571.
Screw: Thread Rolling Stainless Steel Grade 1.4301 or 1.4571.

• For remote control of any quarter-turn application as in Butterfly valves for Modulating or ON/OFF service
which is used in water treatment plants specially the filter house.
• Quarter turn pneumatic actuators is totally enclosed lubricated unit for life time.
• Our actuator is unique design scotch-yoke mechanism providing the greatest torque output at the beginning
and end of stroke.
Design features: -
X = Min.moment arm For moment arm length at any stroke position multiply min.
Y = Max. moment arm moment arm by 1/Cos A.
Conclusion: Greatest torque output is at beginning and end of stroke-where it’s needed.
• As the curve chows the difference between the two types it is clear that the scotch yoke design generates
higher torques required for seating and unseating of the valve disc and that what exactly what the butterfly
valve needs to open and close guaranteeing drop tight sealing and high performance.
• Rack and pinion design dose not comply with such performance as it only generates a constant torque
output all over the valve stroke which means if the water head behind the valve is getting higher this
actuator will not be able to open or close the valve.
