UK market, where applicable and provide for a
suitable disconnect or isolator device. For
other markets, the national / Local standards

3) The controllers are not suitable for exterior
mounting or direct connection to a mains

All equipment must be sited and installed as detailed in the

specification and/or drawings for the system. To ensure
reliability and integrity, good installation practice such as
that laid down in the I.E.E. ‘Regulations for Electrical
Installations’ or national/local regulations must be
observed.
The housing/housings are fitted and cabled up at the
installation stage, with the other items being fitted at system
commissioning (except Marine housings which are supplied
complete).
The MX/ZX electronics are fitted to a chassis plate which is
mounted in the backbox (T2000 electronics are installed to
backbox).
Ensure that the position in which the housing/ housings are
to be fitted allows adequate clearance for cables and for
opening the front cover assembly, which is hinged on the
right and opens to 90° (180° for MX2).

Note: The housings are not suitable for exterior

mounting.

4.2 CABLES
4.2.1 GENERAL
All cables should be specified and installed to meet the
requirements of BS 5839 : Part 1 Subsection 26 or local
equivalent standard.
For the Loop circuit wiring, refer to Publication 17A-02-
LOOP.
When used, the Loop circuit cable screens must be joined
within each device on the loop to form a continuous cable
screen and that the screen is isolated from earth.
All other cables must be of a sufficient size not to cause an
excessive voltage drop (max. 1 volt for a 24 volt circuit for
the current required).

Note: It is an I.E.E. Regulation that fire alarm cables

be segregated from all other (non-fire alarm)
cables.

4.2.2 CABLE TYPES
The following cable types should be used to comply with EU EMC directive (2004/108/EC):
Addressable loops: Refer to Publication 17A-02-LOOP MX Digital Loop - Loading Calculations.
Mains: MICC, SWA (using a suitable termination gland) or any ‘foil and drain wire
type’ fire resistant cable (terminated with an SHV or CXT type gland). Normal
mains cable can not be used for BS 5839 installations.
A ferrite bead must be fitted as shown.

CAUTION:

NO OTHER CABLES SHOULD BE RUN WITH THE MAINS CABLE

Remote Bus: MICC, SWA (using a suitable termination gland) or any ‘foil and drain
wire type’ fire resistant cable (terminated with an SHV or CXT type gland).
Network: MICC, SWA (using a suitable termination gland) or any ‘foil and drain
wire type’ fire resistant cable (terminated with an SHV or CXT type gland).
CABLE PARAMETERS BETWEEN TLI800s (Max length - 1200m)
38,400 Max resistance 75 ohms per conductor
Max capacitance 0.3μF between conductors
19,200 Max resistance 75 ohms per conductor
Max capacitance 0.6μF between conductors
9,600 Max resistance 75 ohms per conductor
Max capacitance 1.2μF between conductors

The maximum distance, using shielded twisted pair cable with characteristics within
the parameters above, terminated with an SHV or CXT type gland, is 3000 metres.
Examples are Belden 9460 or 9574.

In conventional systems, the practice of ‘teeing’ detectors

CIE, monitoring is effected by addressing the various points
within the system and therefore ‘teeing off’ is permitted on
the Loop circuit(s).
