MECHANIZATION IN JUTE SOWING

CRIJAF Jute Seeder

Unit cost of implement:

Benefits:

 Line sowing of Jute at recommended row spacing of 25 cm

 Reduces seed rate by 50% (3-4 kg/ha)
 Reduces labour requirement for weeding and thinning by 50 man-days/ha
 The yield of fibre is 10-15 % more and gain of about Rs. 6,500/ha

CRIJAF NAIL WEEDER

Unit cost of implement:

Benefits:

 Cost reduction of Rs. 10,000/ha

 Drudgery reduction by 50%
 Creates soil mulch and aids in soil moisture conservation during drought conditions

CRIJAF CYCLE WEEDER

Unit cost of implement:

Benefits:

 Reduce weeding cost by Rs. 15,000-18,000/ha

 Ideal for conservation of soil moisture under drought conditions
 Eco-friendly and reduce drudgery

Improved Jute fibre extractor

Benefits
 Extracts ribbons without damage of sticks and fibre
 Capacity – 300 kg green plants/hr
 Driven by single phase 3 hp electric motor / can be operated by 5 hp diesel engine
 Ribbon retting is more efficient than whole plant retting as it requires 1/6th water for
retting

Flax fibre extractor

 Scutching efficiency is more energy efficient, reduces fibre extraction cost by Rs.
30,000/ha compared to manual extraction

Sisal and ramie extractor

 55-60% higher fibre recovery, efficiency more than 90%

 Processing capacity:
For ramie - 400 to 450 kg plant/hr
For sisal 300 to 350 kg leaves/hr
ADVANCES IN JUTE RETTING TECHNOLOGY

PRESENT STATUS OF JUTE RETTING:

• Repeated retting in community water bodies with poor-quality water.

• High grade fibre with desired fineness, colour is not obtained.
• Dry spell in retting months (Jul-Aug) causes water scarcity for retting though
jute areas receive high annual rainfall (1500-2000 mm)
• High transport cost (Rs. 6000-8000/acre) of jute bundles from field to
waterbodies
• Increased drudgery, unhygienic

CRIJAF SONA – A microbial consortium for golden fibre

CRIJAF SONA, is a Microbial Consortium of pectinolytic bacteria which enhances the activity
of retting microbes and hastens the retting process resulting in better quality fibre of jute and
mesta.

Benefits:

 Reduces retting duration by 6-7 days by enhanc- ing activity of retting microbes
 Increases fibre yield by 8-10%
 Improves the fibre quality by 1-2 grades, earn extra income of Rs. 12,000-15, 000 / ha

Liquid retting accelerator (CRIJAF SONA)

 Endospore based formulation, more climates resilient

 Higher shelf life (18 months) and cheaper than talc based formulation)

 Better efficiency and fibre quality

 Instant and quick action on the substrate

Slow moving water system for jute retting

 Simulates natural moving water body slow

 Uniform and faster retting. better fibre quality

 Better efficiency of microbes

 Can be operated with solar energy

 Off-season rearing use for fish

 Improved the fibre quality of jute and mesta from TDN4 -TDN5 (Traditional
retting) to TDN1 – TDN2
WATER CONSERVATION FOR IN-SITU JUTE RETTING AND SELF-RELIANT
ECO-FARMING

 Water availability and higher carrying cost of jute bundles from the field to
nearest waterbodies are the main constraints of jute cultivation

 To overcome the problems, rainwater was conserved in in-situ retting tank

near the field (Minimum area of of 40 ft x 30 ft x 5 ft for retting of 1 acre of Jute
and Mesta at two times), carrying cost of Rs. 4000-6000/acre can be saved.
In light soils, lining with LDPE agri-film of 150-300 microns or RCC lining is
required

 Other advantages: Farmers can earn Rs. 25,000 - 30,000 extra per year,
helpful in groundwater recharging, runoff recycling, climate change adaptation
