REMARKS
Maritec received 5 Fuel System Check samples from Wan Hai 225 as follows:-
1. Transfer Pump ML1618297
2. Settling Tank ML1618298
3. Purifier Outlet ML1618299
4. Service Tank ML1618300
5. Before Main Engine Inlet ML1618301

The analysis results are displayed in the Tabulation and compared to the test results of the bunkering sample ML1616991.

Vessel’s Fuel Cleaning Equipment

Vessel is fitted with 2 x ALFA LAVAL FOPX 609 high density purifiers indicated to be capable of parallel operation .Final Filter mesh size is 32 microns.

1. Bunkering Sample : ML1616991 versus Transfer Pump Sample : ML1618297

The comparison between these two samples show the catfines increased from 28 ppm to 40 ppm indicating no FOT settling efficiency. Possibility of accumulation of
catfines in FOT.
Note water content of 1.6% v/v which considering low sodium level is fresh water.

2. Settling Tank Sample : ML1618298 versus Transfer Pump Sample : ML161827

The comparison between these two samples show that the catfines reduced from 40 ppm to 18 ppm indicating a settling tank cleaning efficiency of 55% m/m.
Water content reduced from 1.6 % v/v to 0.9 % v/v.
The Settling Tank is an effective way of reducing the catfines levels. It is possible to achieve as much as 60% of catfines removal by just using the Settling Tank.
Raise the temperature in the Settling Tank to assist in the settling process and drain the tank regularly.

3. Purifier Outlet Sample : ML1618299 versus Settling Tank Sample : ML1618298

The comparison between these two samples indicates no purifier cleaning efficiency.
Water remained at 0.9 % v/v.
With high density centrifuges it is just as important to ensure fuel temperature at inlet to centrifuge is maintained at a steady 98 deg C. The density difference
between the fuel and water is maximum at 98 deg C otherwise the separation will not be efficient. Splitting the flow between the 2 centrifuges will half the fuel flowing
through each centrifuge and provides a reduction in flow rate. Reducing flow improves centrifuge efficiency.

4. Service Tank Sample : ML1618300 versus Purifier Outlet Sample : ML1618299

The comparison between these two samples show the catfines reduced from 20 ppm to 11 ppm indicating a service tank cleaning efficiency of 45%.
Even though the Settling Tank is typically more effective for catfines removal than the Service Tank as there is less oil level movements; but draining the Service
Tank regularly is still important housekeeping. Drain Service Tank regularly as this can assist to remove the catfines.
5. Before Main Engine Inlet Sample : ML1618301 versus Service Tank Sample : ML1618300
The comparison between these two samples show the catfines remained at similar level indicating no Final Filter cleaning efficiency.

Our records show vessel has 32 micron mesh filter which will allow 99% of catfines through and does not offer any protection. Do consider in investing in a 10
micron filter which will remove about 43% of typical catfines found in marine fuels.

The catfines of 12 ppm Before Main Engine Inlet is marginally above the safe range. The recommended safe level of catfines entering the engine rail
should be less than 10ppm.(<10 ppm).
Drain Settling and Service Tank and recirculate the treated fuel back to the Settling Tank for further round of cleaning to achieve catfines in acceptable limits.
