About this Guide

In this Best Practices User Guide, to explain GenEWIS’ functions, an Airbus “Demo”
Customization for A350 aircraft (MSN: 09801, TN: F-GTM001, Eng Mod: TrentXWB-84) is
used.

GenEWIS is currently only available for the A350 aircraft program and shall be available for
the Single Aisle (SA) aircraft program in May 2023. Therefore, customers with the A350 can
use their aircraft to follow along with the User Guide.

Customers without A350 aircraft can create a TechRequest to gain access to the Airbus
“Demo” A350 aircraft (MSN: 09801, TN: F-GTM001, Eng Mod TrentXWB-84).

The revision date for the aircraft technical data used in this guide is July 1, 2022.

It must be strongly noted that the wiring diagrams presented in this guide differ from the user’s
wiring diagrams. Consequently, the user must apply and adapt the information given in this
guide relative to their diagrams.

About GenEWIS

GenEWIS is an application that allows the user to dynamically generate any kind and any size
of wiring diagram, following an end-user query. This dynamic interaction is possible using
electrical data from the aircrafts’ electrical components.

GenEWIS is used to:

 Accelerate access to Airbus electrical data during troubleshooting
 Compute any electrical path and provide interactive navigation
 Generate on-demand wiring diagrams that can be easily personalized.

GenEWIS eliminates the need to manually trace out the electrical circuit using highlighters on
several printed sheets of the drawings. Hence, it gives a leaner way to structure wiring content
providing better readability – displaying normative symbols – and increased efficiency for
troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

Target Audience

Aircraft technicians, engineers, technical data administrators and other personnel involved in
maintaining aircraft airworthiness and overall management of the aircraft throughout its life
cycle represent the prime focus of this document.

The term “user” shall hereafter be used to refer to the above mentioned people.

Chapter 1 airnavX Online and Standalone

GenEWIS is an application accessible only through airnavX Online (via AirbusWorld or AirbusSupply)
and airnavX standalone, which allows efficient navigation between electrical data and all maintenance
information. Google Chrome is the recommended browser for airnavX Online.
It needs to be stated at the outset that this document is complementary to the airnavX (Online and
Standalone) User Guides. Therefore, the user must understand and apply the fundamental learnings
from the mentioned guides to leverage the content of the GenEWIS Best Practices User Guide.
airnavX User Guides can be found on the Help Centre (see pictures below).

1.1 Additional Capabilities with airnavX Standalone

1.1.1 Archive Revisions

When necessary, the user can download each airnavX Standalone revision according to their revision
cycle from airnavX online (refer to the airnavX Standalone User Guide for further download and
installation information).

Figure 5 airnavX Standalone

Consequently, by downloading airnavX standalone revisions, the user can use airnavX and GenEWIS
offline. Additionally, the users can keep a record of all electrical data and maintenance information in
the downloaded revisions.

1.1.2 Compare old revisions

As seen from part 1.1.1 of this chapter, by downloading airnavX standalone revisions, the user can
compare as many revisions from their downloaded archive. For comparing revisions it is mandatory to
refer to the airnavX standalone versions.

Chapter 2 Accessing GenEWIS

2.1 GenEWIS access from Aircraft Fault Isolation (AFI)

Concrete faults involving the electrical wiring interconnection system are given to guide the user on
how to use GenEWIS when troubleshooting and demonstrate its interactive interface.

Wiring checks are sometimes required in a number of AFI tasks.

Example 1: Fault of the EMER EXIT LT Switch Detected by All the EPSUs

After identifying a fault of the EMER EXIT LT switch detected by all the EPSUs, the AFI is consulted.

As shown in the figure below, the possible causes are due to:
 120RH1 (FAP)
 120RH4 (FAP)
 215VM (ICP-LOWER CTR)
 Wiring.

Figure 6 Fault of the EMER EXIT LT Switch Detected by All the EPSUs

The user should follow the necessary steps outlined in the fault isolation tasks to troubleshoot. If all the
procedures are performed and a check and repair of wiring is needed, GenEWIS is used to generate
the appropriate wiring diagram for the task.

As seen in the figure below, a wiring check and repair is required at Fault Isolation step 2.D, and
performed on the wiring of the signals between the EMER EXIT LT switch and the terminal blocks used
for distribution to the EPSUs.

The wiring reference Ref. AWD A350-A-33-51-XX-05ZZZ-051Z (ATA-6-digit reference) is also given
for the troubleshooting task.

Figure 7 Fault Isolation

A total of 20 signals between the EMER EXIT LT switch and the terminal blocks used for distribution to
the EPSUs must be checked. The dynamic links in the wire and repair table are highlighted in the
figure below.

2.1.1 GenEWIS access from the wire repair and check table dynamic links

The user can obtain the required wiring diagrams to perform the troubleshooting task by clicking on the
various dynamic links provided in the wiring and check table.

Figure 9 AFI Wire and Repair Check Table Dynamic Links

From the figure above, it is seen that the wiring check and repair starts from connector 215VMA. By
clicking on the first 215VMA with pin LL, a pop-up appears to access the diagram.

Wires with the same equipotential path are highlighted in red when the user long clicks on one of the
wires.

The equipotential path goes through all connectors and terminal blocks, but stops at equipment or
switching devices such as relays or switches. The equipotential function also works for optical fibers.

2.1.2 GenEWIS access from AFI ATA-6-digit reference

The complete “Cabin Emergency Lighting - COMMAND/TEST EPSU” wiring diagram runs from zone
210 to 274.

By accessing the wiring diagram through the provided link in the AFI ATA-6-digit reference, GenEWIS
generates the entire “Cabin Emergency Lighting - COMMAND/TEST EPSU” as a whole.

The wiring check and repair starts from connector 215VMA (refer to Figure 8 Wire and Repair Check
Table).

To obtain the wiring diagram necessary for troubleshooting, from the search bar on the right, the user
can select the mentioned connector. Once chosen, 215VMA is brought into focus and highlighted in
red as seen in the figure below.

The electrical continuity check for the 20 signals starts from four pins (<Y, LL, <W, KK) of 215VMA. By
long-clicking on one of the wires from any of these pins, GenEWIS is able to display all the wires with
the same equipotential path in red.

The figure below shows all the wires with the same equipotential path from pin <Y of the 215VMA
connector. To segregate the wires highlighted in red with the same equipotential path, select the
generate button ( ) and then select the desired equipotential view.

Example 2: Fault of Yellow Left Spoiler-1

After identifying a fault of Yellow Left Spoiler-1, the AFI is consulted.

As shown in the figure below, the possible causes are due to:
 1CE1 (PRIM-1)
 1CL1 (SERVO CTL-L SPLR 1,Y)
 201CL1 (FCRM-SERVO CTL,L SPLR 1 Y)
 2CE1 (SEC-1)
 Wiring.

Figure 19 Fault of Yellow Left Spoiler-1

The user should follow the necessary steps outlined in the fault isolation tasks to troubleshoot. If all the
procedures are performed and a check and repair of the wiring is needed, GenEWIS is used to generate
the appropriate wiring diagram for the task.

A wiring check and repair is required at Fault Isolation steps 2.F, G and I. The Aircraft Schematic
Diagram (ASD) Ref. ASD A350-A-27-64-XX-04ZZZ-054Z-A is given for the troubleshooting task.

There are three printing choices as seen in the figure above. When an option is selected, the wiring
diagram is downloaded as a PDF on the device.

The recommended options are “Print diagram in one sheet” and “Print current view in one
