Visa officer: Next applicant come to window 4

Me: Good morning sir
Visa officer: Good morning. How did you come about this school?
Me: I came about it on the internet
Visa officer: Why did you choose this course and school?
Me: It's a progression in my career aspiration (I showed him some offer I got from other schools
in the US and I emphatically made it clear that this particular school is very good and the course
fits my career aspirations).
Visa officer: (after looking at the i-20 form) said; did you write any form of standardized test?
Me: Yes, GMAT (showed him unofficial test result copy) because the official copy has not
arrived yet via post.
Visa officer: What have you been doing since you left the university?
Me: I've worked in 3 companies over the past 5 years. (I told him briefly about my employment
history. I also gave him a copy of my resumes and bank-statements (mine and that of my
sponsors).
Visa officer: (after careful consideration) handed me a blue slip and told me to come the next
Tuesday by 5pm for my visa.

Visa officer: Next on the queue, come here, please

Me: Good afternoon
Visa officer: Good afternoon. Let me have your passport and application forms.
Me: Here there are.
Visa officer: Why did you choose this school?
Me: The school's course goes in depth in an area I would like to specialise in.
Visa officer: How did you get to know about the school?
Me: Through research on the internet and also with the help of my lecturer in school, Dr. XXX.
We research online together and he advised me to choose this school because of research in this
XXX area.(I brought out a letter from the lecturer in school that states that the course will be
relevant to industries in India and that I am an excellent student).
Visa officer: Can I see your GRE test results? (I have about 1100 score),
Me: Here it is,
Visa officer: I can see that you have low scores in your verbal can I see your TOEFL, (100/120)
Me: Here is my TOEFL score report,
Visa officer: OK index finger on the scanner, please
Me: O.K. (puts finger on scanner)
Visa officer: O.K.
Visa officer: So, how would this course be of benefit to you?
Me: I could work in manufacturing industries because this course is highly needed in these
places and it will help me get to the top of my career easily.
Visa officer: What do you plan to do after your studies?
Me: I plan to come back to India and make use of the education, knowledge and skills I have
gathered from my studies to better use here as there is a lot of competition in this field in the
USA, whereas the course will be highly appreciated here in India.
Visa officer: I am going to ask you to come back on Monday for your passport. Take this (green
ticket) for the collection of your passport.
Me: O.K, Thank you. (Collects ticket)
Visa officer: Good luck and all the best in your program.

Visa officer: Next applicant, please

Me: Good morning sir
Visa officer: Good morning. Have you been to the US before?
Me: No
Visa officer: Do you have any relations in the US?
(As long your immediate family (parents/siblings) are not there, just say NO). They might want
to dig up stuffs about them, I guess.
Visa officer: How did you get information of the schools you applied to?
Me: Gradschools.com, usnews.com, Petersons Graduate school guide.
Visa officer: Who's sponsoring your studies and what's the occupation?
(I made sure I thoroughly explained my sponsor's occupation/position in glowing terms)
Visa officer: Which other schools did you apply to?
Me: (I mentioned the four schools that I applied to).
Visa officer: How many admitted you?
Me: (I mentioned the three schools that gave me admission)
Visa officer: Where are the admission letters form other schools?
Me: (Now this question took me off-balance, in fact I was scared when she looked at me that I
didn’t have the other admission letters. . . . but I composed myself and gave this answer) thus
....... “Since I’m only presenting the i-20 of XYZ school, I only brought admission related
documents of this school” . . . .I think she was satisfied, but if you have admission letters from
other schools, better take it along. It won't hurt.
Visa officer: Why did you choose this particular school?
Me: Their research areas align with areas I want to explore and become more proficient in and
the Professors were more open in their email responses (this means you were interacting with
them). I actually had 2 names I was ready to mention in case she asked for the Professors names.
Visa officer: What are those areas?
Me: (I mentioned my 3 core areas of interest)
Visa officer: Why those 3 areas?
Me: Those areas are linked to my current job functions which I want to improve on.
Visa officer: So where do you work?
Me: (I mentioned the company names and what we do; related to my research areas which I
mentioned earlier. I also mentioned that I've been there for over 3 years.
Visa officer: Congratulation! Your visa will be ready on Monday.
Me: Thank you

Visa officer: Next applicant come to window 2

Me: Good afternoon
Visa officer: Why did you choose your school?
Me: They have the best on campus radio nationwide.
Visa officer: What are you studying?
Me: Journalism.
Visa officer: What will you do after graduating?
Me: Journalism is competitive and I am optimistic to find a job home or abroad. There is high
request for professional journalist with good degrees.
Visa officer: Who is sponsoring you and financial documents?
Me: (I said my parents and showed bank statements).
Visa officer: How long do you intend to remain in United States?
Me: As long as my major requires of me.
Visa officer: Where did you hear about the school?
Me: Google search.
Visa officer: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: Two schools but only one gave me admission.
Visa officer: Your visa will be ready on Wednesday.
My comment:
My advice to prospective students is that your answer should be brief and straight to the point.
