Server Management

What is Server Management? Server management involves all the monitoring and maintenance
required for servers to operate reliably and at optimal performance levels. This includes managing
hardware, software, security, and backups to keep the IT environment operational and efficient.

Server Manager is a single solution that is used as a single source for managing identity and system
information.

Data storage management involves the monitoring of software and hardware assets, such as storage
arrays, physical servers, and cloud storage services.

The four server storage types are direct-attached storage (DAS), network-attached storage (NAS),
storage area networks (SAN), and cloud storage. Each has pros and cons, and a typical customer could
use two or even all these types of storage.

Server memory is Random Access Memory (RAM) which processes data from HDDs to the CPU. As
a form of volatile memory, when server memory is powered off it loses all its held information. One way
to think about this is that your RAM modules are the short-term memory, and your HDDs are the long-
term memory.

Total Server Memory (KB) is what SQL currently has allocated. The Total Server Memory is the
current amount of memory currently assigned to SQL Server.
