Fire Pump Set Calculations

Based on the largest area from above calculations following need to be

considered to calculate fire pump flow/pressure demand

Risk Area 1 :

• LDO Storage Tank

o Foam Protection System & 100% Water Cooling System

Pump Flow Capacity as per calculations in Section

A&B = 2733.50 Lpm + 6465.78 Lpm
= 9199.2LPM
Minimum Theoretical Pressure Required at Discharge
end = 5 – 6 Bar (Foam Chamber)

Water Storage Tank Capacity for the duration of

55 Minutes = 150342.50 Liters + 355618 Liters
= 505960.5 Liters

Risk Area 2 :

• Dyke Wall Protection with Foam Pourers.

Pump Flow Capacity as per calculations in Section C = 9475.2 Lpm

Minimum Theoretical Pressure Required at Discharge end = 2 – 3 Bar

Water Storage Tank Capacity for the duration of

30 Minutes = 284256 Liters

Risk Area 3 :

• Dyke wall Protection with Foam Monitors

Pump Capacity as per calculations in Section D = 5500 Lpm

Minimum Theoretical Pressure Required at Discharge end = 7 Bar

Water Storage Tank Capacity for the duration of 30 Minutes = 165000 Liters
Risk Area 4 :

• Water Spray System for Transformers.

Pump Capacity as per calculations in Section F = 2662 Lpm

Minimum Theoretical Pressure Required at Discharge end = 3.5 Bar

Water Storage Tank Capacity for the duration of 120 Minutes = 319440 Liters

Theoretical Calculation of Fire Pump Capacity :

The pump capacity shall be capable of feeding largest risk area in addition to flow
of two hydrants

Largest Risk Area is Dyke Wall using Foam Pourer = 9475.20 Lpm

Flow of Two Hydrants = 3870 Lpm

Hence the Pump Capacity = 9475.2 Lpm + 3870 Lpm

= 13345.2 Lpm
Maximum Theoretical Pressure Required is for Foam Monitor & Fire Hydrant = 7 Bar

Also this is a theoretical calculation actual hydraulic calculations have to be done

to achieve the accurate pump capacity.

Theoretical Calculation of Fire Water Storage Tank Capacity :

The Fire Water Storage Tank capacity shall be capable of feeding largest risk area
in addition to flow of two hydrants

Largest Risk Area is LDO Storage Tank with Foam & Water Spray System = 505960.5
Liters

Flow of Two Hydrants For 120 Minutes = 453600 Liters

Hence the Fire Water Tank Capacity = 505960.5 Liters + 453600 Liters
= 959560.6 Liters (959.56 M3)

Also this is a theoretical calculation actual hydraulic calculations have been done
to achieve the accurate pump capacity.
Summary:
Fire Pump Set Capacity (Theoretical) 13345.2 Lpm (800.7m3/hr).
Maximum Theoretical Pressure Required 7 Bar
3% AFFF Foam Concentrate Tank with reserve (8790 Liters x 2)
capacity For the operation of Largest area = 17580 Liters
which is foam pourers for dyke wall for a
duration 30 minutes as per (NFPA11, Table
5.7.3.2 Class I hydrocarbon)
Water Storage Tank Capacity X1.1 1055516 Liters (1055 M3)
