Good evening everyone and welcome to our English performance.

Today we'll be presenting The Scholarship Jacket. Hope you enjoy it.

Narrator :"talking while the main character walks slowly around".

Martha, a grade 8 student, always studied hard and did her best to achieve her goal of having the
scholarship jacket that was awarded for the person who achieved the highest score.

Towards the end of the year and while she was heading for her lunch, she accidentally heard her
teachers talking.

Scene 1 :

Mr. BOONE: Joanne's father owns the store that we get our supplies from, we have to give her the
jacket.

Mr. Schmidt: but Martha worked really hard, she has a straight A in all her subjects she deserves the
jacket more.

Mr. Boone: we'll figure out …

Scene 1 :

Mr. Boone: we'll figure out something, I'll talk to the principal.
Narrator : " Mr. Schmidt leaves the room angrily"

Mr. Schmidt isn't satisfied nor happy with this decision but he couldn't do more about it.

The principal calls for Martha and she enters.

Principal :

Dear Martha, I need to inform you that the board changed the policy. We won't give the scholarship
jacket for free anymore. It will cost 15$, so if you can't afford it, it will go for the next one in line.

Martha: I see, I'll talk to my grandpa and let you know.

Narrator:" Martha leaves with a broken heart and sadness expressions on her face"

Scene 2:

Martha rushes home to ask her grandpa hoping he agrees.

She reaches home and finds her grandma knitting. She asks her.

Martha: Grandma where's grandpa?

Grandma: he's outside in the field working.

Narrator: Martha goes out reaching for her grandpa.

Martha: Grandpa, I need to ask you for a favor please. You know the scholarship jacket, the school
changed the policy and I have to pay 15 $ for it now.

Grandpa: Why would take that jacket? What for?

Martha: if you score a straight A in all your subjects then you deserve it.

Narrator :" Martha standing in shock and smiling"

At this moment Martha realized what her grandpa meant.


Scene 3

Narrator:

Martha arrives to her school and goes immediately to the principal office.

Principal : Hello Martha, so did you grandpa give you the money?

Martha: no, he didn't. I guess you can give the jacket to Joanne.

Principal : What? Why? Can't he afford it?!

Martha : he said if it was gained by hardworking then we shouldn't pay for it.

Principal : Well, he's right. Damn it! I'll talk to the board.

Narrator " Ending"

Martha with her efforts, and hardwork gained this jacket.

People should get what they deserve no matter what their race, class or religion is.

Perseverance and hardworking always pay at the end!
