Dear Students

This is to inform you regarding your ASL (Assessment of Speaking and Listening Skills) in
English Core, Class XII. The maximum marks ASL comprises is 20, Where 10 marks comprise
of the speaking and Listening skills while the other 10 marks are for the project.

1. Speaking Test: The students are supposed to choose a topic from the List given in the next
page or can also select a topic that’s not included here and is apt for the ASL test. The average
time a speaker speaks for is 2 minutes, and the parameters based on which the marks are awarded
are –

a. Interactive competence (Initiation & turn taking, relevance to the topic)


b. Fluency (cohesion, coherence and speed of delivery)
c. Pronunciation
d. Language (grammar and vocabulary).

2. Project Work: The students are required to submit a project work based on any of these TWO
options. Plagiarism will lead to the cancellation of the project.

1. A Sample interview, wherein the student can interview a peer, a family member, a teacher, an
imaginary person from the student’s favorite domain of study, etc. There should be at least 9
Questions with Answers in the interview (800 to 1100 words). Only handwritten entries will be
accepted. Students can refer to the chapter The Interview in their main course book – Flamingo.

2. A Job application having a neatly typed or written Cover Letter along with a Resume/CV.
The student can assume applying to a firm and also a post they wish to apply for. The student has
to undersign his name and the Resume must be built based on the student's creativity. The resume
can have the candidate’s photograph along with the signature as per the format. This exercise is
also helpful in student’s Writing skills in the theory paper. Both typed as well as handwritten
entries are accepted.
The Project-Portfolio may include the following:

● Cover page, with title of project, school details/details of students.


● Statement of purpose/objectives/goals
● Certificate of completion under the guidance of the teacher.
● Action plan for the completion of assigned tasks.
● The 800-1000 words essay/Script/Report/Interview.
● Student/group reflections
● List of resources/bibliography. (References)
