COMPUTER/DIGITAL ART
* Computer art is any art in which computer play a
role in the production or display of the artwork.
e It can be an image, sound, animation, video, CD-
ROM, DVD-ROM, video games, website, algorithm,
performance, or gallery installation.
TYPES OF COMPUTER ART
Computer Graphics
The most lucrative area of computer art and
involves using specialized software to create
computer images.
The images can range from something quite basic
(like a company logo) to incredibly sophisticated
animations and realistic computer generated film
(special effects).
They have revolutionized the computer game, movie
business, and animation industry.
Digital Installation Art
The use of computer technology to produce large-
scale public art projects.
Can involve projecting film or computer generated
images onto an object like a wall or building.
Typically the “artwork” is movable and considered
to be scaleable site specific art which means it can
be beamed onto any surface anywhere to
accommodate different spaces.
Generative Art
This method means an artwork has been generated
in a random automated manner by a computer
program using mathematical algorithm.
To qualify as generative art, the artwork must be
created with limited artist influence.
The artist only sets the formula and the random
processing takes over.
The computer might produce a painting or drawing
which can then be printed on a paper or canvas.
Computer/ Digital Illustration
This is the use of computer so
Illustrator to produce works of art, similar to
traditional fine art.
While photographic elements might be
incorporated into such works they are not its
primary basis.
Digital illustrations are often produced from
scratch. This method is typically employed in the fashion
industry by designers for their design mock-ups.
Digital Art
Is a general term for a range of artistic works and
practices that use digital technology as an
essential part of the creative and/or presentation
process.
The impact of digital technology has transformed
activities such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and
music/sound art, while new forms, such as net art,
digital installation art, and virtual reality have
become recognized artistic practices.
