Circulatory system

Class 5
INTRODUCTION
CIRCULATORY
SYSTEM
The organ system that circulates blood and
transport nutrients,oxygen,water in the
body and also removes wastes such as
carbon dioxide is called circulatory system.
1.Blood
2.Heart
3.Blood vessels
HEART

+ The heart is a muscular organ

located between the lungs in
our chest.
+ It is towards the left side of the
chest cavity and is protected
by the ribcage.
+ The size of an adult human
heart is about of our fist.
With every beat of For an adult ,pulse
The rate at which
Heart keeps the heart, the rate can vary
our heart beats is
beating all time. blood gets between 60-100
called pulse
pumped, beats per minute.
Structure of heart

+ Human heart consists of four

chambers.
+ The two upper chambers are
called atria which collected
blood from the various parts of
the body.
+ The two lower chambers are
called ventricles which pump
out the blood.
Function of heart

+ The main function of thr heart is to pump oxygen and

nutrient rich blood to the whole body. The blood vessels
carry the blood to the various parts of the body.
+ Its also receives blood containing carbon di oxide from
all the parts of the body,It then pumped it to the lungs to
given out the carbon di oxide and take in more oxygen.
Blood
BLOOD

+ The blood is a thick liquid that flows in our body pumped

by heart .
+ The blood flows in thin pipes called blood vessels.
+ Blood is made up of three kinds of cells, watery liquid
called plasma.
+ RED BLOOD CELL,WHITE BLOOD CELL,PLATELETS
Why blood is red in
colour?
+ Our blood contain
haemoglobin this
haemoglobin combines with
oxygen and becomes red in
colour thus making our blood
red.
Functions of blood

+ Transport oxygen absorbed by the lungs to all the parts of the

body.
+ It transport carbon di oxide from different parts of the body to
the lungs that it can be given out
+ It transports the nutrients absorbed in the intestine to the
different parts of the body.
+ Carries various waste products from our body to the kidneys
to be given out.
Blood vessels
+ Blood vessels are thin tube like
structure which helps to carry
blood in our body.
Arteries

+ Arties are red coloured blood

vessels that carry oxygen rich
blood from the heart to the
various organ.
+ Arteries divided ito arterioles
+ The largest artey in our body is
aorta,main artery coming out
from heart.
veins

+ Vedins are blue colour blood vessels

that carry carbon di oxide rich blood
from different organs to the heart.
+ Veins are thinner than arteries,
+ Each vein is divides into smaller
venules which form a network
throughout the body.
+ Vena cava is the largest vein in the
body.
capillaries

Capillaries are the thinnest of

the three blood vessels that
connect the arteries to veins.
It reach inside the tissue and
exchange of
gases,nutrients,wastes
between the blood and tissues
takes place here.
Circulation of blood

+ Heart collected de oxygenated blood from the various

parts of the body through the veins and send it to lungs.
+ In the lungs the blood gives out carbon dioxide and
takes in oxygen.
+ The blood then return to the heart.
+ The heart now pumps this
oxygenated blood to all parts of
the body through the arteries.
+ The blood reaches the various
tissues in the organs and gives
out the oxygen and takes in the
carbon di oxide.
+ Now the blood goes back to the
heart and cycle continues.
