1.scope
The purpose of the this method statement is:
 To ensure that temporary works erected on site and intended to support the
permanent structures during the execution of the works.
 The works are properly mounted in accordance with drawings method and
codes of practices, in order to prevent settlement, collapse or any disorder
which could be detrimental to people (site staff and public), to progress and
to quality of the permanent works.

2.General
 This chapter applies to the Arab contractors departments and branches.
 Similar procedure will be requested to subcontractors when temporary
works are of their scope.

3.procedure
3.1 principle
 Prior to any loading off temporary, (by concrete precast element, steel
works…), the conformance of the erection of thee false works is chucked
by a designated and competent responsible against method drawings and
codes of practice.

3.2 Temporary works checking engineering (TWCE)


 The job description of the persons in charge of the control is given
hereunder:

3.2.1 Duties of Temporary works checking engineer


 To identify all temporary works to be controlled prior to loading.
 To maintain a list of these temporary works, to be established with the
Method/Technical manager.
 To obtain all method drawings needed for checking on site
 To check all listed temporary works against method drawings and codes of
practice prior to loading with particular concern to :
 Stability of supporting ground
 Good conditions of supporting scaffolding
 Number and distribution of scaffolding and supports
 Dimensions of steel profiles
 Quality of connections (welding, bolting,….. )
 Safety of access
 Safety for site staff and public.
 To check that subcontracted temporary works are checking in the same
manner, by a TWCE designated by the relevant subcontractor.
 To identify and discrepancy between method drawings and in situ
execution
 When a discrepancy is detected, the TWCE shall instruct the site engineer
to correct the discrepancy or to obtain the acceptance of the
method/technical manager.
 The TWCE shall postpone his authorization for loading until the correction
is completed or written acceptance given by the method/technical manager.
 When a clarification is needed, the TWCE has the right and the duty to
contact any competent JV staff (see internal interfaces), or any
subcontractor, as appropriate.
 When checking is satisfactory, , the TWCE signs the inspection check list
(ICL) available with the site engineer/QC engineer, in front of the line “
control of temporary works”.
 Upon requested from Client /Consultant, the TWCE shall inform them
about the progress or the result of the checking

3.3 Sensitive points


 The TWCE is designated by the site manager in written.
 Several TWCE could be designated depending on the need (availability,
number and duration of checking).
 The TWCE shall not be directly involved in the progress and the schedule
of the temporary works that he has to check.
 Site production staff (work section leader, site engineer,….) is not
authorized to proceed to loading if the relevant ICL is not signed by the
TWCE.

 In case of subcontracted temporary works, the ICL shall be signed by the


Subcontractor’s TWCE is given prior to loading.

3.4 Documentation
 A form of inspection checks list (ICL) showing the line “ Control of
temporary works “ is attached in Appendix 1.
