TITLE:
Multiplication of Integers
OBJECTIVE:
To find the product of two integers with the help of the number line.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

(i) Multiplication as repeated addition.
(ii) Knowledge of number line.
(iii) Knowledge of integers.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
1. A white sheet of paper.
2. Sketch pens of different colours.
3. Geometry box.
4. A pair of scissors/cutter.
5. Adhesive /Glue.

PROCEDURE:
(i) Consider two integers namely 4 and 5.

(ii) Draw a number line as shown in figure -1

(iii) On the number line move 4 steps to right from 0 to reach the point A as shown in
Figure - 2.
(iv) Multiplying 4 by 5 means adding 4 five times.
(v) So make five such moves to reach the point E as shown in figure -3.

OBSERVATION:
We observed that the point E on the number line represents the number 20.

RESULT:
Hence, 4 x 5 = 20
