How can I use this with my children?

Children may need a little help with the

set up, but should be encouraged to do
Parent Guide
as much of this resource on their own
as possible (including scribbling and
cleaning).

How does this help my children’s learning?

Holding a toothbrush and pen is great for

fine motor development, while learning
about personal hygiene is an important
part of early years education.

Teeth Cleaning Activity
Can you use a toothbrush to get all the marks off the
tooth? It’s just like when you brush your own teeth!

You will need:

• Tooth Template, printed
• A4 plastic sleeve
• black or green
whiteboard marker

Instructions: • old toothbrush

1 Slip the Tooth Template into the

plastic sleeve.

2 Use the whiteboard marker scribble on

the tooth - this is the tooth’s decay.

3 Scrub the ‘decay’ off the tooth using

your old toothbrush. How clean can
you get the tooth?

4 Repeat!

Remember:
it’s important to remember that your own toothbrush
should only be used for brushing your teeth. You shouldn’t
use your everyday toothbrushes for scrubbing (or other
activities like this) unless it’s old and won’t be used again.
You also shouldn’t use other people’s toothbrushes.
