Family

Types of families - nuclear family - consists of parents and children


- extended family - nuclear family but also grandparents in one home
- single-parent family - one of parents dead/ they are divorced/ single mother
- step family -orphans/abandoned children are adopted

Adoption reasons - Infertility or Avoiding Pregnancy Complications, Passing Down Genetic


Disorders, same-sex couple, single parent,

Responsibilities of parents :

- providing financial support- paying for essentials such as food, clothing, shelter,

- providing psychical support – good study conditions,

safe environment - physical safety, childproofing the home, monitoring their activities, teaching
them about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, emotional support, listening to their concerns,
providing guidance, building their self-esteem

-life skills- cooking, cleaning, and budgeting,honesty, respect, responsibility

-health and well-being - nutritious meals, taking them to the doctor for regular checkups, ensuring
they get enough exercise, good hygiene practices

-children's education - helping with homework, attending parent-teacher conferences, encouraging


their children to pursue their educational goals

Being a member of family - means many duties, mainly houseworks

Single or married - average age for married is between twenty and early thirty
- Marriage - couple living together and they are formally married
(celebration/ritual)
- COhabitation - couple living together without being formally married

Broken families - Research in Britain shows, one in three marriages get divorced
- In America research shows, every second couple gets divorced

- common reasons - diferent interest, living with parents, financial problems, addiction to alcohol,
drugs or gambling and unemployment

- some divorced parents re-marry

Different cultures - Monogamy family - man is legally married with one woman
- Polygamy family - man is legally married with more than one woman (Tibet)
- Arranged family - parents find life partner for their child such as in India
Dialogue – singer and his responsibility as teen role model

- should realize everyone can see his actions in newspapers

- should not drink/do drugs in public

- should be responsible

- try to think as a parent and what would he think if it were his children

- try to persuade him to stop wasting money on drugs and he can instead invest them into his music

- think about your health issues, cost of those issues and rehability
