Host Instructions
GAME STRUCTURE: the game is organized into two rounds, and is structured as follows:
ROUND ONE – 48 HOURS: you will view the round one materials to start your investigation. First, watch the
introduction video #1 from Detective Chapman. The detective will give you instructions on what you are to do
to help solve the case. Do not view the 72-hour materials (round two) until you have completed the
investigation of the 48-hour round one materials. In the timeline of your investigation, Round one was
delivered to you first, and a day later, Detective Chapman shares the 72-hour mark materials for round two
with you.
ROUND TWO – 72 HOURS: after you have thoroughly reviewed the materials in round one, view the round
two materials. You’ll watch the second video of Detective Chapman before you proceed. He will update you on
the case and give you further direction. The answers lie in the full set of the materials and ultimately point to
one suspect. You will need to be a super sleuth to solve the case. When you think you know whodunit and are
ready to know the answers – open the solution file, which is a separate download that is available on your
account. Do not review the solution file before you are ready, as it contains spoilers.
SOLUTION: once you have reviewed the entire case and are confident you know whodunit and why – it is
time to view the answer key and read about what happened. Hopefully, you were right and led Detective
Chapman to arrest the right suspect!

PLAY SOLO OR AS A GROUP: there is a lot of flexibility on how to play this game. You can play by yourself
and solve the case in one night or spread out the fun and intrigue over time and work on the case at your
leisure. You can take your time and spread out the fun over multiple nights – this is a challenging game.
Alternatively, you can host a party (or two or three) and solve the case as a group. There are two ways to play
with a group:
1. Work together as an investigative team. Don’t move on with the case unless everyone agrees or at least
debates the issues until you have an agreement (or you agree to disagree).
2. Work together on the investigation but have each player (or smaller teams of players) submit an individual
guess of whodunit. The materials will be available to the group equally, but each player (or team) will take
notes and come to conclusions independently. They can discuss the case, but with a competitive edge.
You can declare winners after the solution is presented.
WITH A GROUP GAME, HERE’S HOW TO INVITE YOUR GUESTS: Make it casual by text invite or formal by
using the free invitation, make your own invitation, use a social media event page, email/text the
YourMysteryParty.com link, or use any eVite service. The Your Mystery Party guest pre-game site will have a
synopsis of the mystery, and a game trailer video. Encourage your guests to get familiar with the premise of
the mystery before your party. On the other hand, it’s not mandatory – you can still play without viewing the
Your Mystery Party site.
The free, printable invitations are located on the page where you purchased this game – click on the link that
says ‘free, printable invitation’ under Helpful Links on the website. Download the PDF file. It is important to first
save to your hard drive. Reopen with the most current version of Adobe Reader, or you may face issues. Use
the text fields to fill in your information. Print or save to your hard drive. You can email these invites as
attachments to your guests to save paper costs.
The Your Mystery Party website link for your game is https:/yourmysteryparty.com/ross
START THE GAME WITH THE ROUND ONE (48-HOUR) MATERIALS: when you are ready to start the
game, play the 48-hour introduction video #1 from Detective Chapman. Then, you will review the first round of
materials that Detective Chapman forwarded to you (in the timeline it is Thursday evening – the 48th hour after
the body was discovered on Tuesday). Here’s the order that we suggest you investigate (but it’s entirely
flexible).
1. Watch Detective Chapman’s video #1.
- He will give you a background of the case and further instructions.
2. Watch the 11 witness interview videos.
- Take notes while you watch and jot down anything that stands out as peculiar. Consider the
additional information given on the Your Mystery Party website and make notes.
3. Review the 48-hour, round one case file printed materials.
- Using a highlighter, highlight the important things that stand out to you on the printed materials.
4. Work on Dita’s codes and decipher her hidden messages in her social media posts.
- If you get stuck, there is a link to a hint for Dita’s codes at the bottom of the Your Mystery Party
site (/abbyross) – click on the magnifying glass if you want hints. This page has hints for all of
her codes in both rounds, so you should at least try to solve all of them from round one-two first
before using the hints. This code is tricky and will take time and patience. It is not 100% needed
to solve the case, so it may be skipped. But, if you &/or your group want a challenge – go for it!
5. Formulate a timeline.
- Now that you’ve immersed yourself in the evidence. Piece together a timeline of where
everyone was during the days following up to the murder. Use the timeline form given to you.
6. Analyze motives.
- Figure out if any of the witnesses had a motive for murder. Use the Homicide Investigation
Notes form to organize your data. You can subjectively assign a numerical value between 1-10
on the strength of the motive. This will assist you to make a short list of the strongest suspects.
Unless they have a severe mental illness, killers typically have a motive.
7. Analyze relationships.
- Consider not only the relationship with the victim, but also the relationships or connections
between other witnesses. Use the relationship form to organize your data. There are two
examples illustrated for you on how to use the form.
8. Review the coroner’s report and forensic reports a second time.
- Now that you are exposed to the entire case, go back and study the coroner’s report (autopsy)
and forensic report to see if anything stands out.
9. Review phone/text records.
- Using the timeline you have constructed, analyze the phone and text records to see if anything
stands out as peculiar.
10. Re-watch the witness interviews.
- By this time, you might decide to view the witness videos again to see if you can determine if
anyone is possibly lying or covering up something. Match their statements with the evidence
and make notes of anything that doesn’t add up.
11. Formulate a tentative guess of whodunit
- Make a short list of strong suspects and tentatively guess whodunit before you move on to
round two. Do not open the solution envelope – you will need the evidence from round two to
solve the case completely.
OPTIONAL DINNER BREAK: If you’re making a night of this with friends, before you start the round, this is a
great time to pause the game and eat dinner. Encourage everyone to keep talking about the case. Once
dinner is done, launch into round two with the video #2 (72 hours) from Detective Chapman. Or, you can host
a second party with round two – however you wish to do it. As long as the information is presented in order –
you’re set!
OPEN THE ROUND TWO ENVELOPE: when you are ready to continue the game, view the round two (72
hour) materials that Detective Chapman forwarded to you. Here’s the order that we suggest you investigate
(but it’s entirely flexible).
1. Watch Detective Chapman’s video.
- This video is set 24 hours into the future from round one (72 hours post murder). He will update
you with the case and give further instructions.
2. Review the round two case file materials.
- Receipts of interest (5)
- Crime lab report
- DNA report
- Social media post
- Text logs (3)
- Witness Statement

GUESS WHODUNIT: Once you are convinced that you know whodunit – write down your best guess of the
guilty party, the motive, and how they accomplished the crime. It’s best to write it all down before you read the
solution, so you can compare how your guess stacked up to the real solution.
If you are playing as a group – make sure either everyone agrees on the solution or if not, discuss the case
until you at least have a majority. Make a note of anyone with a different opinion of whodunit.
If you are playing this as a competitive game, instruct everyone to write down their best guess of the complete
solution and give it to you before you present the solution.

OPTIONAL DESSERT/SNACK: Playing solo? Skip this section. If you’re making a night of this with friends,
this is a great time to serve coffee and dessert. Encourage everyone to keep talking about the case and their
guess of whodunit – if it differs from the group.
DOWNLOAD THE ANSWER KEY: Download the solution file from your account at any time. Please note –
do not open the file if you do not wish to know whodunit! Read the solution file and see how your guess
matches up!
WILLIAM ACE CADBURY 40/M High school chemistry teacher at McMasters Preparatory Academy.
Abigail Ross’s neighbor and her former teacher at McMasters Preparatory Academy (10 years ago when
Abigail was a sophomore). The victim was also a recent colleague of William’s at McMasters Prep.
LAUREN PETUNIA YOUNG 17/F Student at McMasters Preparatory Academy and junior class president.
Ms. Young is enrolled in Lucille Lockhart’s English Literature class (where the victim was a teaching
assistant), and William Cadbury’s Advanced Chemistry class. Lauren witnessed an interaction between
Lucille Lockhart and Abigail the day before the murder.
NANCY JUNE ROSS 38/F Cousin of the victim (estranged), and midday reporter at RBC News. Nancy is
the only living relative in the country (mother is in London with her fiancé ever since the victim graduated
high school). Nancy openly despised the victim and was the neighbor of Abigail’s ex-boyfriend, Scott
Sellers.
DAMIAN EDMUND LEE 31/M Patient care tech at Tender Owl Home for Seniors. Damian is a member of
the Demon Knights – a cult that participates in ritualistic animal sacrifices. The victim was the sole
eyewitness of a traffic accident the day before her murder involving Simon Hoch and Damian Lee. Both
men were issued traffic violations due to Abigail’s statement. Damian is currently engaged in litigation with
the nursing home for accusations of murdering elderly residents of the nursing home. The investigation
was dropped against Damian due to a lack of evidence (and possibly because of the lawsuit).
CHARLIE KEITH PETERS 49/M Owner of the Raven’s Den – a hotspot in Nevermore and former place
of employment of the victim. Charlie and Abigail’s relationship was tumultuous, and Abigail had banished
Charlie from her social media accounts the Saturday before she was murdered. Abigail had also quit her
job at the Raven’s Den on Monday night and was found dead on Tuesday. Charlie was engaging in a
potential relationship with Dita Von Trappe, a known antagonist of Abigail Ross.
LAWRENCE JAY HUGHES 28/M Bowling clerk at Nevermore Bowl, which is next door to where the victim
took yoga classes at Total Fitness. Mr. Hughes was a member of a bowling team with Mr. Sellers and
Simon Hoch. Lawrence has been implicated in a harassment incident with the victim, and a perpetrator
that matches Lawrence’s description has been reported to have been wandering around neighborhoods.
LUCILLE (LUCY) LYNN LOCKHART 43/F English teacher at McMasters Preparatory Academy and
supervisor of the victim (morning teaching assistant). Lucille is best friends with Nancy Ross, the
estranged cousin of the victim. Lucille is colleagues with William Cadbury and was the former teacher of
Alexa Myers when she was a student at McMasters Preparatory.
SIMON DUNCAN HOCH 40/M Currently unemployed, living in a makeshift cabin in the Nevermore Woods.
An estranged childhood friend of Charlie Peters, and formerly on a bowling league team with Lawrence
Hughes and Scott Peters (stand-in for missing person), Simon is known to suffer from severe anger
management issues.
SCOTT VINCENT SELLERS 25/M Former boyfriend of the victim and coworker at the Raven’s Den
(nightclub) – both Scott and the victim were PT bartenders on weekends. Scott is the neighbor of Nancy
Ross, the estranged cousin of the victim. Dita Von Trappe pursued a relationship with Scott during the time
of his relationship with Abigail. There is no evidence that Scott considered Dita’s advancements.
DITA VON TRAPPE 30/F Yoga instructor at Total Fitness – former yoga teacher of the victim. The victim
and Alexa Myers had recently complained about Dita filming and posting feeds of their yoga classes on
social media. Also, Dita has posted cryptic codes on social media that have yet to be deciphered. Dita got
into an altercation with the victim the night before the murder.

NARRATIVE REPORT OF CASE 081068-AR.NPD BY:
Detective Philip Chapman, Nevermore Police Department. Badge number 142
Last Tuesday evening, at 2204 hours, my partner, Detective John Franklin, and I were
dispatched to 512 Misty Lane, Nevermore, USA – Unit D. At the dead end of the street,
there were four duplex homes, labeled Units A-D. The units were run-down Victorian-style
condominiums with cracked windows, peeling pale-yellow paint, and torn shingles. An
untamed field was across the street with waist-high vegetation as far as my eye could
see. Upon arrival at the residence, I stepped onto a screened-in porch with two of the
screens popped out, but nowhere to be found. The boards of the porch were worn and
possibly termite ridden.
I engaged with Officer April Jones, the first officer at the scene. She had
responded to a neighbor’s call to 9-1-1 regarding a repetitive, loud song being played
from the victim’s home. Officer Jones stated that an apparent homicide had occurred in
the kitchen of the residence. She believed the murder weapon could have been a large
knife, axe, or other large-bladed weapon. She stated she did not locate the murder weapon
on the property. I recalled seeing a chop-marked tree stump in front of Unit B upon my
arrival at the scene. I left the porch of Unit D to investigate the perimeter of Unit B,
but no axe or other large weapon was near. The lights were off inside of Unit B. When I
returned to the porch of Unit D, Officer Jones advised me that she had sealed the
perimeter of the entire scene with barrier tape and called in for the coroner and
emergency medical personnel, who had arrived only moments prior to Detective Franklin and
my arrival. She further stated that she had posted her partner, Officer Gary Gray,
outside of the front door of the residence to maintain the crime scene logbook.
At 2215 hours, Officer Jones relinquished control of the scene to Detective
Franklin and me. We signed the crime scene logbook. The first three entries of the
logbook were the coroner and two of the coroner’s assistants. I immediately requested
that Officer April Jones sign the logbook. She explained that she had forgotten to sign,
but she had photographed the crime scene and searched every room of the residence.
Upon entry into the residence, the kitchen was immediately on the left-hand side.
We entered through the front door, where Officer Gray was stationed. Psychedelic rock
music was playing from a vintage RCA Victor record player (Bakelite Model 6-EY-1) on the
kitchen counter. I noted the vinyl, 7” 45 RPM single record. The song Careful with that
Axe Eugene by Pink Floyd (1968) was being played with the player set on repeat and the
volume knob turned at the highest level (10). A slight decomposition aroma mixed with
copper hung faintly in the air. The body of a female, blonde, approximately mid-twenties,
was found lying supine on the vinyl kitchen floor immediately below the record player,
surrounded by a semi-liquid substance which was brownish red. Dr. Natalie Quince, the
county coroner, stated the victim was deceased and had died of what appeared to be
several wounds inflicted by a large-edged weapon. Dr. Quince noted that an autopsy would
be performed at the county morgue to determine the actual cause of death. On the kitchen
counter next to the record player, a mango-scented candle had flattened and spilled out
onto the Formica countertop with a long, charred, curled wick. I assumed the candle had
been burning when the victim died. I gloved my hands and pressed the candle wax with the
back of my hand, and it was room temperature. The wick was also room temperature and
crackled as I touched it. I noted two champagne glasses in the sink – both of which had a
faint aroma of champagne. One glass had baby-pink lipstick on the rim. This lipstick on
the rim of the glass did not appear to match the smeared purple lipstick on and around
the victim’s lips. I searched for a champagne bottle, but there was not one on the
property. The victim’s eyes were open. The puddle of blood surrounding her body had
already formed skin with a pudding consistency and turned into a brownish-red.
The coroner’s investigators placed the victim into a county body bag and transported the
body to the morgue. Dr. Quince advised me that she would contact the victim’s family.
The scene was cleared and released at 0227 the following morning.

Upon my arrival to the parking lot of 15317 Dead Hollow Lane (Raven’s Den), I noted Ms. Abigail Ross sitting in her car (white
Honda Accord, TTH GHB) which was parked by the exit. The parking lot was full of bystanders gazing in Ms. Ross’s direction
and engaging in lively conversation. I asked Ms. Ross to step out of the vehicle, so I could record her statement of events. As
Ms. Ross stepped out of the vehicle, a female voice (source unknown) started shouting at her. I asked Ms. Ross not to engage
with the onlookers. Ms. Ross stated she was ambushed upon leaving work at the Raven’s Den at approximately 2130 hours by
Ms. Dita Von Trappe. The complainant stated Ms. Von Trappe was brandishing a metal baseball bat while marching toward her.
NARRATIVE
Ms. Ross quoted Ms. Von Trappe, ‘I will bash your head in if you ever try to manipulate Charlie again.’ Ms. Ross stated she
didn’t respond to Ms. Von Trappe and attempted to walk toward her car when a beige Buick Regal (license SATNLIVS) drove
slowly and ‘seemingly with a purpose’ in between her and car while glaring at Ms. Ross. Ms. Ross stated the man was wearing
all black and appeared to be a young 30’s male. Ms. Ross believes it might have been the car that had been involved in a traffic
accident that she had witnessed earlier that morning. As the driver of the Buick pulled away, out of the parking lot, Ms. Von
Trappe cornered Ms. Ross against the white Honda Accord and stated “if I ever see you again, you won’t make it out alive. You
best be going home now.’
Ms. Ross stated she climbed into her vehicle, started the engine and drove to the edge of the parking lot and called the police
department to report the incident.

defensive position during attack). However, portions of the counter and kitchen floor had been wiped down with bleach-
based cleaner. Either the suspect was inept at forensic countermeasure and left partial evidence, astute at forensic
countermeasure (and removed all traces of him/herself) or was interrupted as he or she was trying to clean the crime
scene. An empty cleaning bottle (Clorox Multi-Surface cleaner) was located underneath the sink and was taken as
evidence. No latent prints were found on the cleaner (including Abigail’s). Therefore, if the killer used the cleaner, the
killer wore gloves or wiped down the bottle after using it.
Investigative notes:
Multiple sources report that the victim was a regular house cleaner. Vacuum on property had a new bag, taken
into evidence and analyzed. Nothing noteworthy was found in the bag besides an animal hair belonging to a white dog,
which we believe belongs to Alexa Myers (she has an English Bulldog, partially white).
Regarding the paint chip – we’re sampling vehicles to determine if we have a match. (Note: there is a sizable
amount of gravel in front of the property on the street that likely caused the paint to chip as an older model car drove by
the property.)
The pollen grains of the species of ragweed (Ambrosia cheiranthifolia) only were found in the Nevermore Woods.
We have sampled the goat carcass found on the victim’s porch on Monday and the carcass was covered in identical
pollen grains. The pollen grains of Ambrosia cheiranthifolia are usually one-pored, and in this region, can be found year-
round. If pesticide is used on the vegetation, a second pore can form. We have found a match to the rare two-pore pollen
grain around Simon Duncan Hoch’s cabin. We took twenty-five (25) samples from the Nevermore Woods (and in 50
locations of heavy vegetation around town).
Oak fragments were not found to be a match to any surface or material on the property or within the victim’s
belongings. The oak is consistent with the handle of a bladed weapon.
The mulch on the victim’s property and feet prompted us to request a trace analysis and fingerprint analysis at
William Cadbury’s residence. He agreed to our request without delay, and we did not find anything of interest besides the
victim’s fingerprints on the front door, doorknob, and window next to the front door. There were no fingerprints or other
evidence of the victim within the interior of the property at 512 Misty Lane, Unit C.
which was stopped at the light on red, but recovered and parked behind V2 awaiting police. Neither driver exited the
vehicle until I arrived on scene immediately after the accident, as I had been traveling Southbound on Nutmeg behind
V2. The witness had turned left onto Nutmeg Street and parked in front of V2. I instructed the witness not to leave until
she had given a statement. The accident was cleared at 0823. As Ms. Ross was giving her statement, the driver of V2,
Mr. Hoch, shouted ‘if you say it’s my fault, I’ll slit your throat.’ I allowed Ms. Ross to leave the scene and spoke to Mr.
Hoch, who assured me he was ‘only joking.’
