METHOD OF STATEMENT FOR COLUMN STRENGTHENING WORKS.

Section Enlargement. This method of strengthening involves placing additional


“bonded” reinforced concrete to an existing structural member. With section
enlargement, columns, beams can be enlarged to increase their load-carrying capacity
or stiffness.

STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE:

Stage 1 - Preparation works and roughening


After identifying the RC beams with the site representative will then be erect scaffold
and working platform.
The defective concrete to be hacked to sound substrate and spot roughening to
substrate. Its surface must clean and free from all traces of loose material, dust,

Stage 2 - Fixing Starter bar and steel bar


Install starter bar to the required depth and to be planted by using Hilti RE500. Plant
shear key with Hilti RE-500V3 according to spec given. The reinforcement placing
according to Engineering detail.

Stage 3 - Clean the concrete surface


Clean the concrete surface that have been contaminated. Oil, grease, dirt, or fine
particles of concrete prevent cement grout penetration and bonding. The solvent or
dirt can blow out by using compressed air.

Stage 4 - Prepare fabricated and install watertight form work.


Fabrication of formwork and temporary support and erect it’s to final position with
provision of inlet and outlet pipe. Formwork shall be watertight to prevent loss of
cement grout.

Stage 5 - Cement Grout mixing with 10mm aggregate


Place about 70% of the 4-litre clean water into a clean container of mixer and gradually
Adding 10 KG of 10mm washed chipping for every 25KG of SIKAGROUT 215 cement
grout to control heat. (25kg/bag mix with approximately 4 litres clean water)

Stage 6 - Preparing checklist and cube test for mixed grout.


Prepare 9 no of 50mm X 50mm cube mould for each beam grouting and to be sent to
independent laboratory for testing.

Stage 7 - Pressure pump in Cement Grout.


After mixing, stir lightly with a spatula for a few seconds to release any entrapped air.
The grout is then poured immediately into the prepare formwork until 90% full. Then
carrying out pressure grouting, ensure the sufficient pressure head is maintained for

uninterrupted mortar flow. Using manual hand grout pump and pump at~ pressure 2
bar to ensure SIKAGROUT 215 Continuous flow throughout. (1 bar = 14.5037738 psi)

Stage 8 - Plug off the inlet and outlet pipe after finish pressure grouting.

Stage 9 - Remove the formwork and temporary support after 3 days.
