Filipino values and traits will represent us and this will give identity to all of us Filipinos.

Wherever we go, we can show it to other people of a different race and be proud of it because it
will serve as our treasure that we can bring and share anywhere and to anyone. It makes me
proud to be a Filipino because I get to experience living with the humblest humans with a pure
heart. Even though some of our countrymen do not have much wealth, they are still willing to
accommodate other people and help them with whatever they need because helping is not
measured by the amount of money we can give but by how we get along and guide them.

I chose my cousin who is currently in Cavite to be my respondent because I know that

she wholeheartedly apply Filipino traits and values in everyday life. I interviewed her through a
video call on messenger and I recorded her responses to my questions for my reference. I read
the question to her and her answer is that Filipino values and traits can be shown naturally if our
family or the people we live and grow with always apply them to themselves at any time. She
also says that you may not be a Filipino if you don’t possess those traits and values naturally. I
agreed with what she said because I know that all Filipinos really value the traits that represent
all of us just like our hospitality that is a leading trait that we normally act in which we
considered a reputation that we do not want to pull down. I asked her to tell me a story or her
own experiences in which she exhibit Filipino traits and she willingly answered that whenever
there’s someone who she thinks is in middle age and older age, she shows respect by
‘pagmamano’ even if she doesn’t know them personally and also to her relatives who’s older
than her especially her grandmother and grandfather. She also makes sure that whenever she’s
having a conversation with an elderly, she always says ‘po’ and ‘opo’ as a sign of respect.

Being a Filipino makes me want to share the traits and values I have with other people in
another country because it’s the least I could do to show that I’m truly proud of being born and
raised here in the Philippines. But despite the amazing traits of Filipinos, it is still undeniable that
there are attitudes contrary to the beauty of those behaviors. I believed that the toxic traits or
negative traits of Filipinos are only occasional and can still be changed and avoided if we value
positive Filipino traits. Let’s just remember that if we show positive behavior to other people, we
will also earn the same because that is where respect takes place and as a Filipino, we want to be
respected by everyone.
