Deluxe Test Probe Kit – Assembly Instructions for IM‐11/13/18/28/5218

For V‐7 and V‐7A Probe Kits – you will use similar techniques, but check diagram at end of
document before beginning construction

By KK4HXJ 4/29/2015

Step 1 – Strip Jacket on Ground Wire ½ ‐ 3/4 inches & strip jacket from Test both test leads 3/4 ‐ 1 inch

Step 2 – Twist Jackets on both Test Leads and Trim Insulator from Center Conductor 1/4 – 3/8 Inches
Step 3 – Twist and tin the center conductors and the shields, solder the shields and ground wire to the ground and
solder the center conductors to the center tab

Step 4 – Carefully squeeze the ground clip and protect the center conductors with electrical tape

Step 5 – Install the plastic sleeve and check for continuity and shorts
Step 6 – Close up plug and recheck for continuity and shorts

Step 7 – Install Heat Shrink on Plug

Step 8 – Prepare Ground Connection – Strip & Tin Wire then solder (a drop of flux helps a lot)
Step 9 – Strip Test Lead Wires about 1” and trim back shield and strip center conductor about ½”

You may also want to cut 1 wire 1” shorter to account for the Resistor length if you want both leads to end up the same
length!

Step 10 – Lightly tin the center conductors and attach the resistor to the shorter wire you prepared earlier.

Step 11 – If you are going to inject hot glue as a strain relief drill 1/8” Holes near the probe entrance

You may wish to drill them a little further than I did here, so that they may be covered by the label and/or heat shrink
for a nicer finish.
Step 12 – Insert wires into test probes (a little finesse is key), screw on collars and trim excess wire

Step 13 – Inject Hot Glue (Most Glue guns will melt the plastic a little, be careful of glue squeezing out next the wires, It
is not called hot glue for no reason!)

Final Steps ‐ Install Probe Labels and Heat Shrink Tubing, The labels give the probes a nice look, The tubing protects the
labels and give the probes a nice feel.
For V‐7 and V‐7A Probe Kits
You will use the same techniques above

However Additional components have been supplied

Including:

1 Red Silicone Wire for the AC Test Probe instead of a shielded coax

A Red and a Black Banana Plug for the AC and DC Test Probes

Use the following diagram from the V‐7A Assembly manual for guidance
