What is an article?

A piece of writing intended for publication in a newspaper,


magazine or journal.
It is written for a wide audience in an interesting or entertaining
manner.
It can:
– describe an experience, event, person or place
– present an opinion or balanced argument
– compare, contrast, provide information
– offer suggestions and/or advice
It is written for a wide variety of purposes and can be
descriptive, narrative, discursive, etc. (The style should be
appropriate to each kind of writing)

– Describing and/or advertising a product/service
– Offering advice/suggestions
 Example: an article in a brochure for a company which wants
to attract new customers from around the globe
