The result of the Revolutionary War was significantly influenced by the Franco-American
alliance. Prior to the Treaty of Alliance in 1778, France secretly supplied America with weapons,
supplies, and money, greatly assisting the country's war effort. Recognizing the greater threat
posed by the united Franco-American troops, the British decided to depart Philadelphia in 1778
as a result of the official alliance between France and America and the French navy stationed in
New York. This tactical change strengthened American morale while undermining British
fortifications. Moreover, the pivotal Battle of Yorktown in 1781 was made possible by French
military support, both ashore with troops under General Rochambeau and at sea with the naval
fleet under Admiral de Grasse. A pivotal moment that cleared the path for American
independence was the joint Franco-American siege that finally resulted in General Cornwallis's
surrender, while the French naval blockade stopped British reinforcements. Therefore, this final
battle at Yorktown finally led to the formation of the United States of America.
