a) Robert Tottenham (1810-1858) B.A. (Trinity, Cambridge), of Annamult, Co. Kilkenny. Barister at law. Freeman of Dublin, 1842. He
married the daughter of Lt.Col. Charles Synge of Mount Callan, Inagh, Co. Clare. See App. V.
b) Lt.-Col. William Heathcote Tottenham (1815-1857), 12th Lancers. Freeman of Dublin, 1842. He married, in Calcutta, the daughter of the
Rev. William Crofton, Rector of Skreene, Co. Sligo, and died a few months later at Bangalore. The daughter was born posthumously.
c) Louisa Tottenham (1845-1919) married John Hely-Hutchinson of Seafield, Donabate, Co. Dublin - see Peerage, Donoughmore - and
had two sons, who married, and two daughters, who did not.
d) Lt.-Col. Frederick St. Leger Tottenham (1850-1933) of Mount Callan, D.L., J.P. Educated at Harrow. Served in the Royal Fusiliers until
1892, when he came to live at Mount Callan, which he inherited from his mother in 1891. High Sheriff, Co. Clare, 1899. His wife was
daughter of the Very Rev. Thomas Gamier, Dean of Lincoln, whose wife, Lady Caroline Keppel, was the youngest daughter of the 4th Earl
of Albemarle. During the bad times, in 1919, when he was living alone, Mount Callan was “raided” and he was assaulted. He was then
in his 70th year. He handed over Mount Callan to his eldest son, Robert (C3g-13) in 1923, and spent the remaining years of his life near
Dublin.
e) Major Arthur Tottenham (1852-1908), 91st Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Saw service in the Zulu War.
f) Gertrude Tottenham (1856-1947) married Arthur Maconchy of Rathmore, Raheny, Co. Dublin, who was for many years a Secretary of
the Church of Ireland Representative Body. She lived to be over 90.
g) Capt. Robert Garnier Tottenham (1889-1968) of Mount Callan (1923-1952) and Ballycurry. Served in Royal Fusiliers, World War I.
Lost his right arm at the Gallipoli landing, 25th Apr. 1915. A.D.C. to G.O.C. 16th (Irish) Division in France. Retired 1920. He was appointed
under the will of his cousin Charles (C1e-12) to be heir of the Ballycurry and New Ross Estates, to which he succeeded in 1952 . On 5th
April 1952, he divided the New Ross property between his four sons. On 20th Sept. 1956, he made over the remainder of his rights under
the will of his cousin Charles to his eldest son, Charles Barton (C3i-14) on the latter’s marriage to Alicia Pretor-Pinney. Robin, as he was
generally known, married the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Sir Geoffry Barton, K.C.V.O., C.B., C.M.G., of Craigs, Dumfries, who also served in
the Royal Fusiliers and was Colonel of the Regiment. He died in 1968. His wife Joanna Catherine died as the result of a Road Traffic
Accident in 1970.
h) Sir Richard Tottenham (1890-1977), K.C.I.B., C.S.I., M.A. (Dick). Educated at Harrow and New College, Oxford (Exhibitioner). Played
cricket for Harrow, but not v. Eton. Member of Oxford University Authentics’ Cricket Club. Indian Civil Service 1914-1948. Served in
Madras until 1924, and thereafter with the Government of India in the Defence and Home Departments, having held the post of
Secretary in each. C.I.E.,1930; C.S.L, 1935; Knight Bachelor, 1937; K.C.LE., 1946. Of Weston Farm House, Totland Bay, Isle of Wight. He
married the daughter of Major James Gwynne, Royal Welch Fusiliers. The compiler of the first edition of this book.
i) Capt. Charles Barton Tottenham (1924-1992), M.C.(1944), of Ballycurry. Educated at Eton. Irish Guards, World War II. He served in
the Guards Armoured Division and fought in the relief of Brussels. Awarded the Military Cross for an action near the village of
Heuchtel in Belgium where his tank was knocked out and he took over another. In order to avoid peacetime soldiering in London, he
joined a Guards parachute unit and served in Palestine and North Africa. After he took on the running of Ballycurry, he developed a
love for forestry. In 1960 he bought, and with his brothers converted as a houseboat, the canal barge 50M which, renamed Venus, is well
known on the Shannon and has been a source of enjoyment to this branch of the family. He married (1) the daughter of Maj.- Gen.
Dreyer, C.B., D.S.O., whom he divorced, and (2) the daughter of Capt. G. R. Pretor Pinney, R.N., of Somerton Erleigh, Somersetshire.

j) Robert Edward Tottenham (1925-2007) of Mount Callan, Royal Engineers World War II, he served in Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Later he was posted to India and served in the Royal Bombay Sappers and Miners in India and Burma. Educated at Marlborough he
married the daughter of J.A. Tierney of Dublin. Having recovered from a prolonged illness in 1949, he took on the running of Mount
Callan where starting in a small way he developed a considerable forestry enterprise, the success of which contributed to the
development of private forestry in Ireland. He was a founder member of the Irish Timber Growers Association; served on the Wild Life
Advisory Council and was given honorary life membership of the Royal Dublin Society. In 2000 he founded Pro Silva Ireland, a branch
of Pro Silva Europe, an organisation promoting “back to nature” commercial forestry. As president he has been travelling extensively
in Europe and this has revolutionised his thinking about growing trees.
k) Commander Geoffry Tottenham (1927- ) served in world war II and spent most of his subsequent Naval Career in submarines. He was
captain of four submarines, H.M.S. STURDY, ANDREW, CACHALOT and OLYMPUS and commanded the submarine squadron
attached to the Royal Australian Navy in 1964-67. Retiring from the navy in 1972, he bought Meelick House Co. Clare near the shores
of Lough Derg where he interested himself in the Inis Cealtra Yacht Club at Mount Shannon and in teaching young people to sail. In
1978-80 he and brother Charles operated Aerial Contract Services Ltd., working in many parts of the Irish Republic. Educated at
Dartmouth he married the daughter of Howell Owen, the former Chief Justice, Sudan.
l) Richard Frederick Tottenham (1932- ), B.A., of Knocknamohill. After working in a milling business in Mallow, Co. Cork, he worked for
The Chartered Bank in Singapore and later on the Singapore Stock Exchange. In 1965, he returned to Ireland and developed a practice
working as an accountant to solicitors. In 1983, upon the death of his aunt, he inherited Auchenskeoch, the property of his maternal
uncle in Galloway, Scotland, but sold it, preferring to expand his wife’s property at Knocknamohill, Co. Wicklow. He was educated at
Marlborough and Trinity College Dublin. He married the daughter of Commander R.R. Mulcahy-Morgan R.N. of Knocknamohill and
formerly of Kipkirima Kenya, who had served in the Royal Navy in two World Wars.
m) Denis Tottenham (1918-2001), R.N.V.R., World War II. He belonged to the Baker Street Private Army, officially known as a section of
S.O.E. (Subversive Operations [Europe] Executive), and he took part in a secret “unofficial” mission which entailed sailing a Brixham
Trawler from England to Freetown and carrying out certain operations in that neighbourhood - see “Geoffrey” by Major John Geoffrey
Appleyard, D.S.O., M.C., and Bar, J. E. A. (Blandford Press, Ltd., 1947). See also “ANDERS LASSEN V.C. M.C. of the SAS” by Mike
Langley, (Grafton Books 1990). Educated at Harrow. He married Diana, only child of Hamilton Osgood of Boston, U.S.A., whose not too
distant cousin was the wife of Erskine Childers, the Irish Patriot.
n) Charles Robert Bosville Tottenham (1957- ) was educated at Cheltenham and Gurteen. He worked in Australia and the U.S.A. before
taking up his share of running Ballycurry. A keen sportsman, he played rugger for Landsdowne and captained the Arklow cricket club.
He married the daughter of Brian Williams of Llanhamlach, Brecon, formerly master of the Brecon Hunt. He and his wife, Kathryn, breed
thoroughbred horses.
o) Clare Lucy Caroline Tottenham (1959- ) teaches English as a Foreign Language at Westonbirt School in Gloucestershire.
p) Alicia Frances Joanna Tottenham (1961- ) is a consultant Landscape Gardner in Ashford, Co. Wicklow.
q) Geoffry Patrick John Tottenham (1962- ) was educated at Cheltenham and Cirencester. He now farms part of the estate of Ballycurry.
He is a committee member of the Irish Timber Growers Association. He married the daughter of Thomas Miller Ormsby of Milford,
Tuam, Co. Galway.
r) Robert Joseph Synge Tottenham (1977- ) was educated at Glenstal Abbey and University of Central Lancashire. He has developed a
business in forest harvesting. He has now formed a company called Tottenham Timber and is working in the North of England.

s) Frederick Charles Oswald Tottenham (1978- ) educated at Glenstal Abbey and Trinity College, Dublin where he gained a B.A. B.A.I.
(Engineering) in 2002 and an M.Sc. In 2005 he worked with GOAL, an Irish aid agency in Sri Lanka and subsequently in Niger where he
had a bad motor accident. He is now fully recovered and works for a company installing and servicing wood chip fueled boilers..

t) Edward George Tottenham (1980- ) educated at Glenstal Abbey, Cork Institute of Technology and the National Marine College of
Ireland.He was 2nd officer in the Merchant Marine, having worked with Arklow Shipping and on the luxury yacht Christina O. He now
works as a project manager in construction.

u) Commander John Geoffry Tottenham (1956- ), R.N. has spent his working life in submarines. Educated at Cheltenham and R.N.C.
Dartmouth (scholarship) - B.Sc.(Hons) Bristol University. He was captain of H.M.S. Onslaught before he joined H.M.S. Vanguard. He
is now retired from the navy and living on the Isle of Man

v) Mark Robert Tottenham (1970- ), B.A. Educated at Newpark School and Trinity College Dublin, where he graduated in History. He
worked in publishing and in historical / genealogical research. He qualified as a barrister in 2002 and now practices in Dublin and on the
South Eastern Circuit.

w) Philip Richard Tottenham (1971- ), B.A. Educated at Newpark School and University College Dublin. Captain of U.C.D. Windsurfing
Club. He is a photographer living and working in London.
