30
Binomial expansion (1+x)^n and (k+x)^n when n is non positive integer (160 minutes)

Introduction
○ Begin the lesson by reviewing the binomial expansion with positive integer powers.
○ Explain that in this lesson, we will extend the concept to include non-positive integer
powers.
Exploring Non-Positive Exponents
○ Discuss the definition of non-positive integer exponents (negative integers and zero)
and why they are important.
○ Provide examples of expressions with non-positive exponents
○ Emphasize the role of combinatorics and the binomial theorem in expanding such
expressions.
Deriving the Binomial Theorem for Non-Positive Exponents.
Write out the binomial theorem with non-positive integer exponents and explain the formula:

Practice and Examples

○ Provide students with printed handouts containing a variety of exercises involving
binomial expansion with non-positive integer powers.
○ Work through a few examples together, demonstrating the application of the derived
formula.
○ Encourage students to solve problems independently while you circulate and offer
assistance as needed.

31
Partial Fraction and Binomial Expansion (80 minutes)

Introduction
○ Remind students about partial fraction
○ Remind students about binomial expansion with non positive integer power
Exploring
○ Exploring partial fractions from the previous sample then continue to expand as
binomial expansion

Exercise: Students do some exercise about the topic
