Cell Wall
Composed of cellulose, the cell wall is the rigid outer structure of a plant cell that gives the cell
its rectangular shape. It also gives the cell structure. Plant cells need these due to them not
having any bones. This is why I chose to use a cake for the cell wall. The cake is giving my
project structure such a cell wall would do a plant.
Cell Membrane
You can compare the cell membrane to an HR officer. This is due to the fact that a cell
membrane controls what goes in and out of a cell like how an HR officer controls who to accept
for a job. The word membrane also means thin skin, because of that I decided to use gummy
worms for the cell membrane. The gummy worms create a thin outer layer of the cell such as a
cell membrane would.
Cytoplasm
The cytoplasm is a gel-like substance that acts as a cushion to the cell's genetic material. It is
located between the cell membrane and nucleus. I chose to use frosting for this due to the fact
that it looks similar to cytoplasm.
Nucleus
The nucleus runs a cell. It also contains the cell’s genetic material. I decided to use an orange
because it matches the shape of the nucleus.
Nucleolus
The nucleolus is located inside the nucleus. It’s small and creates ribosomes. I chose to use a
blueberry for this because, like the nucleolus, it's small.
Ribosomes
Ribosomes create or synthesize proteins. Due to that I decided to use a protein bar because
like ribosomes they contain protein.
Vacuole
The vacuole stores excess water in a plant cell. They are large in plant cells. Due to their size I
thought marshmallows would be able to represent them the best.
Chloroplast
In plant cells chloroplast creates food from sunlight. They are also green. I chose to use grapes
to represent them because grapes are green.
