1. What is Peer assessment and why do we use it at University of the People

Peer assessment is feedback from various sources such as mentors, tutors, and lecturers, and

can greatly improve the learning process of students. Fellow students, peers, are another

source of feedback, and peer assessment, formative or summative feedback from peers, can

provide many educational benefits. Peer assessment means that students give each other

feedback and, where relevant, evaluate their own work and performance. Peer assessment can

be used in a supportive way, rather than simply allowing students to grade each other.

Many educators describe peer assessment as a process that enables learners to think critically

about their peers' learning. Peer review is also a two-way process. Students who provide

feedback also benefit from developing their own understanding. This is accomplished by

requiring students to critique and review the work of others while reflecting on their own

understanding and performance. Peer-assessed learning activities can take many forms. The

simplest peer assessments can include peer assessments that provide formative feedback to

each other. For large numbers of students whose peers work in groups, this feedback may be

formative (such as informal feedback) or summative, with each group her member

contributing.
It is used at university of the people because it helps develop lifelong skills to evaluate and

give feedback to others, and develops the skills to self-evaluate and improve one's work.

Peer assessment can be used as a stand-alone approach to teaching, but is often combined

with peer learning, where fellow students work together to support each other's learning and

assess each other's progress.

2. Benefits or Peer Assessment

- Students to learn to assess others and give constructive feedback that is critical to develop

lifelong assessment skills.

-some students will give their closest friends higher marks

-Some students will not take it seriously

- Different skill levels as some students have limited knowledge of the subject.

5- What strategies will you use to peer assess written assignments? How will you assess
discussion assignments?
-Get familiar with the topic that you’re about to assessment
-Take time when assessing and be rational.
-Understand that some students language barrier, so give them feedback on grammatical.
-Be respectful and honest.
