Volvo Penta is phasing out most of our zinc anodes for AQ drives, S-drives and folding
propellers and replace them with aluminum anodes.

This phase out of zinc anodes will happen during Q3/Q4 2021, with a use up approach
to existing zinc stock.

For an extensive and detailed explanation of questions you might have around this
switch, please read the Q&A document available on VPPN called Anodes Q&A.

A new training video is available in Navigator; 640114: VP Sacrificial Anodes Training

Volvo Penta recommends using aluminum anodes in salt and brackish waters. If the
boat is used mainly in freshwater Volvo Penta recommends magnesium anodes.

Main benefits of using aluminum anodes are:

• Up to 30% higher corrosion protection capacity (through higher driving voltage)
• Up to 20-40% longer lifetime
• Less environmental impact

Volvo Penta has for some time supplied aluminum anodes as factory fit from production
on our AQ drives, which means that introducing aluminum anodes on most of our
remaining range (both current and legacy) is a natural step.

A few older drives will keep zinc anodes as the only alternative for salt and brackish
waters. A full reference table is found below.
