1. What is music and how is it different from sound?

Music typically would involve a deliberate assortment of sounds, whether they are
instrumental or vocal, when on the other hand with sound, it refers to any vibration that can
be detected in the human ear.

2. Why do people listen to music?


Music is listened to because of countless reasons, which differentiates from person to person,
so to pinpoint why in general, wouldn’t be possible.

3. What is rhythm and melody and how is rhythm different from a beat?
Rhythm and melody are the two most important and fundamental elements found inside of
music as a whole.
 A melody refers to a sequence of single or multiple notes/pitches that create musical
phrases - the part that we, humans, would typically hum or sing
 A rhythm refers to a pattern of sounds/silences that give music, as we know it, it's
groove - it is what would typically make us want to tap our feet, bop our heads or
dance to a song.
A rhythm and beat are not the same, even though they share similarities. To further explain,
let me deepen what a beat is.
 A beat is a constant and regular pulse that exists within a song to provide a foundation
that a rhythm that it needs.
So, to sum up the difference, a beat is a steady pulse whilst a rhythm is a pattern of
sounds/silences that creates movement in a song.

Timbre is the unique quality of a sound that distinguishes it. Instruments differ in said timbre
due to the unique sound-producing mechanisms that instruments have.

5. Why do some things sound harmonious and others don’t?


Harmonious sounds are produced when a simple relationship exists between
notes that are played together, while other things may cause dissonance due to frequencies
relating in complex ratios rather than simple, leading to a clash or tension within the sound.

Music is important to communities and cultures because it properly expresses their identity,
brings people together and can even marks significant occasions.

Music is one of the arts, and both music and other art forms involve creative expression that
conveys emotions and ideas.
Music is an artform because it allows the inclusion of creative expressions that convey
emotions and ideas. Music is a way for people to both express themselves creatively and
connect with others on an emotional level

Music has influenced history in various ways, for example by reflecting cultural, social and
even political changes – serving as a tool for protest and resistance and it boosted morale
during times of war. Music has also influenced music by inspiring the emergence of new
genres and styles as a response to cultural trends and societal changes.

9. Why is music so important to humans and what is the purpose (or purposes) of music?
Music is important to humans for emotional expression and social connections. Music serves
various purposes such as relaxation, entertainment, communication and cultural expressions.
Music had a crucial role throughout history in human society.
