LOI 2: Violation of rights and responsibilities (Causation)

This is a list of Universal Declaration of Human Rights

1. Freedom from torture.


2. Freedom from slavery.,
3. Right to liberty and security.
4. Right to a fair trial.
5. Right to an effective remedy if a human right is violated.
6. Freedom from discrimination; right to equality.
7. Right to be recognised as a person; right to nationality.
8. Right to privacy and family life.

12. Right to asylum.
13. Freedom of thought, conscience and religion.
14. Freedom of expression.
15. Freedom of assembly and association.

Task - You are provided with a list of human rights and some cases. Work with your allotted group ,
study about the given cases and answer the questions based on them.

Guidelines :
1. Group work is mandatory.
2. Each group will be allotted 2 cases.
3. You need to answer the set of questions for both the given cases.
4. The presentation and case study should be done on A3 size sheets.

Case 1- Mrs X, who some years ago lost her daughter and husband in a car accident, could not marry
another man unless her brother-in-law gave his permission.

Case 2- In the local factory, the workers have to work for at least 10 hours a day without a break.

Case 3- The woman, doing exactly the same job and having the same age and experience, received a
lower salary than her male colleague.

Case 4- X, suffering from a life-threatening case of pneumonia, received no medical treatment in hospital,
as she had entered the country illegally.

Case 5- Seventy percent of the population of area X were forced to move away from their homes and
were later prevented from returning. They were not allowed to leave their camps to go to nearby fields to
cultivate their crops, and they were forbidden to travel on many roads.

Case 6-. In country X, those who want to belong to the Falun Gong religion are prohibited from meeting.

Case 7-The children living in the village are unable to attend a primary school, as there is no such school
available within a reasonable distance.

Case 8- Being black, X cannot get a job as a doctor in the local hospital.

Questions :
 What do you think, which right is violated in both cases ?
 How did you arrive at your opinion?
 How would you feel if that happened to you?
 How would you react?
 What would you hope other people might do?
