PRODUCTION: EMERGING DEVELOPING PROFICIENT OUTSTANDING

SPEAKING X

In this period, we worked on differentiating the different pronunciations of the -ed ending words. We
asked and answered questions about things that happened in our childhood, where we focused on the
-ed ending sounds. You did great on this activity, however, at times you got confused about them.
Remember:
Used, liked → /t/
Changed, enjoyed, /d/
Started, ended /id/
Other than that, you successfully copied the rhythm of the conversation we listened to. Great job!

WRITING X

You had to write a paragraph for a blog talking about what you used to be like as a child or teenager,
and if you have changed. You did this outstandingly well, as you were able to include the vocabulary
we learned in class about the different stages of life, as well as the correct form of the past tense: “As
a child, I used to be very shy”, “when I was a teenaged I liked to wear black clothes”, “In my early
twenties, I started university and talked to more people.”
Keep up the good work!

COMPREHENSION:
LISTENING X

During this period, we listened to an interview with a professional portrait photographer. You had to
take notes about different things he mentioned, paying close attention to the vocabulary related to
photography. We had to listen to it twice for you to complete your notes, which you did accurately,
identifying things like the type of people he photographs, and his favorite photo. We listened to it
once again to do a True/False activity, where most of your answers were correct. The most difficult
ones were when the speaker talked too fast, which we will be working on in next period.

READING X

We read an article about storing digital photographs, after which you had to do an activity identifying
the different problems that each of the formats have. You were able to answer all of these correctly,
even when some of the vocabulary was new. You also had to get the meaning from context for some
different words (file format, resave, erase, flash drive, upload). Some of these you already knew, but
the ones you didn’t, you were able to understand with little help. Good job!

NEW WORDS/PHRASES
- Toddler
- His/her early twenties
- Pensioner
- Blurred
- Floppy disk
- File format
- Thunderstorm

RECOMMENDATIONS

Check out this video where you will be able to practice listening to speakers at a faster pace. This will
help you a lot for being able to improve your listening comprehension, which is already good, but will
be even better if you work on this!
