revised vocabulary related to abilities and possessions of cartoon characters
Instructional Materials & Media [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and Materials)]
Piktochart flashcards (for vocabulary revision)
Kahoot (for grammar revision)
Infographic with example character and description designed in Canva (Character design is prepared by Pixlr)
Smartboard
Clean sheets of paper (for the activity)
Learning-Teaching Methods [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and Materials)]
Presentation by Piktochart/Canva: to review the materials needed to complete the task successfully
Game/Quiz by Kahoot: an engaging way to start a lesson and revise targeted grammar
Task-Based Language Teaching: Three stages of the method can be clearly seen:
Pre-task stage: providing learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to complete the task and/or make
sure they remember the necessary knowledge and skills to complete the task
Task stage: the actual task, which is creation of a unique character, presentation
Post-task stage: reflection on the experience by initiating a brief discussion about the activity
Teaching Activities [ASSURE (Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials and Require Learner
Participation)]
- Review the grammar structures learned in the unit (Talking about ABILITIES using can/can’t and talking
about POSSESSIONS using there is(are) my/your/her/his...) by using Kahoot
-Review the vocabulary items learning in the unit by presenting the flashcards designed in Piktochart
-Initiate a short Q&A session (2-3 minutes) by asking students questions related to both vocabulary and
grammar structures to probe their understanding. (E.g. Emre, can you fly?; Esra, what would you prefer: an
invisibility coat or jumping boots?)
-Explain the activity: what is expected, how much time is given for preparation/presentation, which structures
and vocabulary should be utilized, show the example character on the smartboard, ask for any additional
questions, distribute clean sheets of paper for preparation (1 for each student). Encourage them to use the
descriptive skills from the previous units (descriptive adjectives and the necessary grammar)
-Circulate the classroom to offer additional guidance and support
-Observe the presentations. Note mistakes, but do not correct them, they will be used for future lessons as well
as for evaluating of unit comprehension
-Initiate a discussion based on the activity by asking questions (Who was your favorite character? Who is the
strongest/kindest/etc.?)
- Announce and explain the homework assignment. Announce that the next lesson will involve an evaluation.
Briefly explain the evaluation task(s).
Individual Learning Activities Students will create and describe their own characters
by utilizing vocabulary and grammar items covered in
the unit (abilities and possessions) as well as the
materials from the previous units (descriptive
adjectives)
Group Learning Activities -

Measurement & Evaluation
- Evaluate how well students can recall vocabulary and grammar targeted in the unit in the Q&A session after
the revision stage. Based on that, the effectiveness of methods and techniques can be noted for the upcoming
lessons.
- Reflect on the activity and its outcomes: how confused students seemed when given the task/ did they ask for
more time for preparation?/ were they excited?/ how well they met the task(lesson) objective? Based on that,
techniques used in the classroom should be reviewed.
Measurement & Assessment Activities for Apart from Kahoot, here is no explicit measurement of the
Individual Performance lesson content, rather the assessment of the comprehension
of the whole unit. The given activity should provide
insights on the comprehension of the unit material and
previously covered materials as well as students’ speaking
skills
Measurement & Assessment Activities for -
Group Performance
Homework (optional) Students will be assigned to draw the character they have
created in the class
Explanation
-
Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan
Stage 1: Introduction (2 minutes)
Greet the students and give a brief description of today’s class activities.

Stage 2: Grammar and Vocabulary Revision (10 minutes):

- Review the grammar structures learned in the unit (Talking about ABILITIES using can/can’t and talking
about POSSESSIONS using there is(are) my/your/her/his...) by using Kahoot

Note: Since it takes a long time to organize a Kahoot activity, make sure that the QR-code is on the board
before the start the lesson. Additionally, warn students about the Kahoot, so they would be prepared for it.
Note: Sometimes the website may not open, it this case, use a white board to review the grammar

Note: proceed with the activity, even if students struggle with recalling the contents. However, make sure to
provide them additional assistance in the task preparation stage.
Note: consistently monitor time. Do not let the Q&A session exceed the allocated time

Stage 3: Speech Delivery Activity (30 minutes)

-Part 1: Explain the activity (5 minutes). Explain what is expected, how much time is given for
preparation/presentation, which structures and vocabulary should be utilized, ask for any additional questions,
distribute clean sheets of paper for preparation (1 for each student). Encourage them to use the descriptive
skills from the previous units (descriptive adjectives and the necessary grammar)

Note: make sure that the task is clear. Try to diminish the possible questions by giving an explicit explanation of
the activity.

-Part2: Preparation (7 minutes). Circulate the classroom to offer additional guidance and support.

-Part 3: Presentation (15 minutes). Ask students to start their presentations, each should give a short speech
(4-5 sentences) about the characters they created. Each presentation should be no longer than 40 seconds. To
minimize possible time losses, ensure students remain at their tables for their presentations.
Note: firstly ask for volunteers. If there are some, make sure to track who participated. If there are none, call
out the students by the seating arrangement. Do not use the class list!

-Part 4: Discussion (3 minutes). Initiate a discussion based on the activity by asking questions (Who was your
favorite character? Who is the strongest/kindest/etc.?)
Note: Make sure not to give any judgments or correct mistakes. Monitor the classroom atmosphere, do not let
any student offend someone’s work

Stage 4: Closure (3 minutes):

Announce and explain the homework assignment. Announce that the next lesson will involve an evaluation.
Briefly explain the evaluation task(s). Answer the questions regarding the homework and evaluation task(s)

-Inform the students about starting the quiz

-Open the review game designed by using Powtoon. During the quiz, observe the classroom to clarify
possible confusions and assist students

-Initiate a brief discussion after the quiz, discuss the correct answers. Let the students explain why they have
chosen certain answers over the others. Explain why the correct answers are correct

-Initiate another assessment activity, this time using Bubbl.us. Explain the task, encourage students to ask
questions

-During the preparation phase of the task, actively monitor the students and offer their additional support
and guidance if required

-Announce the reflection part of the task. Explain what should be covered in the reflection. Distribute the
reflection sheet. Similarly, monitor the students while they are completing the assignment and offer
assistance

-Make a lesson and unit conclusion by summarizing key elements and vocabulary

Individual Learning Activities Powtoon Game: Students answer individually using

personal devices. The activity serves as a great
opportunity to revise the content of the unit. It
removes the potential anxiety that students might face
before the evaluation tasks. Discussion similarly
allows to clarify some misconceptions.

Assessment tasks:

Concept map: Allows students to demonstrate their

understanding of relationships between terms

Reflection: this is a highly beneficial task that allows

students to evaluate their understanding and
performance, but also enhances their cognitive skills.

teaching methodology and strategies. If students seemed lost during the tasks themselves, the potential area
for improvement could the task explanation strategies. If the concept maps or reflections are not as fulfilling
or objective as it was expected, the material introduction and in-class activities for its reinforcement should
be reconsidered
