The panel discussion that I attended the other day was entitled “Today’s youth is the same

mixture of good and bad characteristics as always”. But is it true,

are young people these days self-obsessed and have no empathy at all? It is often argued
whether youngsters have changed or not. However, despite some good aspects of their
personalities, the cons outweigh the pros.

To begin with, it is certainly true that many young people nowadays are more self-centered
than they used to be. It is the rapidly growing internet and social media that caused teens to
be obsessed with themselves. They are comparing their and other people's photos, which
are usually photoshopped, and that leads them to look only for flaws in themselves and be
even vainer.

Another commonly held point of view is that youngsters require constant stimulation, they
cannot be left alone, and also they do not know how to get themselves to do anything. It
cannot be denied that some of the parents caused this issue. These days it is popular that
the family model is 2 plus 1, in that case being the sole child is not unheard of. Despite all
the pros, the cons are more serious young people are spoiled by their parents and cannot do
anything by themselves.

To sum up, today’s youth is not as caring and confident as they used to be back in old days.
Those young people are corrupted by the internet and sometimes are even unable to make
decisions on their own.
