7 wonders Edifice review

As I posted earlier, I’ve played 7 Wonders a lot but without expansions. It’s a game that I felt didn’t
need expansions for the groups that I played with.

So when I got a chance to review Edifice, I thought it would be great to see how my game group would
receive it.

Great news is that this expansion is very easy to incorporate into the main game. The rules are very
simple.

When you build a stage of the wonder, you can pay to participate in the project of that age.

There are a limited number of participation tokens on each project so there’s not enough for everyone.

If you miss out, you either don’t get a nice bonus or you get a penalty. Either way, it hurts.

This expansion was an extreme hit. Not only did it add more tension between the players, it did so
without adding complexity or time. The first time, we played with it, everyone was feeling it out and
didn’t see that they could miss out. But after that, it was really fun trying to see when people would go
for the wonder and project. I think we all kept more money on hand as a last ditch effort to pivot. The
punishment of not participating was big enough to hurt but not devastating that they have no chance.
Although if you miss out on all three projects, you’d be hurting bad. Lol

7 Wonders Edifice is a great addition to the base game. I highly recommend it as it doesn’t add
complexity but adds a lot more decision points to the game. I thought the base game was enough to
play but now I will always add Edifice to the game.

The good

Simple rules and seamless to add

Player interaction because of limited tokens

Bonus/Penalty is enough incentive to make projects essential

Plastic tokens are nice

Many different projects to choose from

The Not So Good

Project cards would be better as thick cardboard tiles

Doesn’t fit into the base game insert nicely
