1. Approval For The Expansion Of Ujjwala Yojana 2.0


 The Union Cabinet approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
(PMUY) 2.0 for release of 75 lakh LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) connections
over 3 years from Financial Year 2023-24 to 2025-26.
About PMUJ:
 Ujjwala was launched in 2016 under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas
(MoPNG).
 The scheme to make clean cooking fuel such as LPG(Liquefied Petroleum Gas)
available to 5 crore rural and deprived households.
 In the Union budget for FY 21-22, provision for an additional one crore LPG
connection under the PMUY scheme (under Ujjwala 2.0) was announced.
 The scheme targets low-income families who could not be covered under the
earlier phase of PMUY.
 The first refill and stove will also be provided free of cost to Ujjwala
beneficiaries. iv.A subsidy of Rs.200 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for upto 12 refills
per year is being provided to PMUY consumers.

global population relies on open fires for cooking.

 NPCI Bharat BillPay (NBBL), the wholly-owned subsidiary of National Payments


Corporation of India (NPCI), has introduced the ‘Unified Presentment Management
System’ (UPMS) for recurring bill payments.
 NPCI on 4 January 2022 launched Unified Presentment Management System (UPMS) for
recurring payment. Customers can set up standing instructions for any mode of payment.
The payment will be done automatically in terms of auto-debit and bill payment
management. UPMS will help in payment of mutual funds, insurance, subscriptions,
school fee payments etc.
 National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) functions as the authorised Bharat Bill
Payment Central Unit (BBPCU), which will be responsible for setting business standards,
rules and procedures for technical and business requirements for all the participants.
 Under Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), a BBPOU is allowed to facilitate bill
payment services of electricity, phone, DTH, water, gas insurance, loan repayments,
FASTag recharge, education fees, credit card bill and municipal taxes. BBPS is owned by
the National Payments Corporation of India.
 The RBI on Thursday eased norms for non-bank entities to set up Bharat Bill
Payment operating units by reducing the net-worth reqirement to Rs 25 crore, with a
view to encourage more players in the segment. At present, a net worth of Rs 100 crore is
required to obtain authorisation for a non-bank BBPOU (Bharat Bill Payment Operating
Units).
