1. TCP/IP Settings on HMI

To develop communication between HMI and PC , we must give proper IP addess in both HMI and the PC. To
configure HMI please follow the following steps,

1. Power up the HMI.


2. The HMI screen will show bootloader information of HMI. Below is an example of a HMI bootloader informa-
tion.

when screen shows the followings, press “Control Panel”.

3. Control panel window will open. Scrol down the window and double click on “Tansfer”

4. Double click on “Transfer”.

5. Double click on “Transfer” and Transfer Settings window will be open. Please follow the settings shown
on screen. Both options of channel 1 must be checked and Channel 2 must be set on Ethernet.

6. Press Advance, flollwing window will open. Select Onboard LAN Ethernet Driver and press “Properties”.

7. Now press “Properties” to change TCP/IP address.

8. Select “Specify an IP address” and then click on IP address bar. This will show Keyboard to entre nu-
marical values. The IP address for HMI is 192.168.0.2, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 and Default gate-
way is the computer IP address which is 192.168.0.1.

9. Press “Ok” on top of keyboard and HMI will show the following windows.

10. Press “Ok” on Adapters windows, then press OK again on “Network Configuration” and “Transfer Set-
tings” window to come back to main control panel.

11. Now scrol the windows upward and double click on “OP”

12. “OP Properties” window will be open. Click on “Device” bar

13. Click on “Reboot” and Click “Yes” when attention message will be shown. see picture below

2. TCP/IP Settings on Computer

To update or transfer HMI program, PC and HMI must be connected and are able to communicate to each
other. To establish communication, we need configure TCP/IP settings. Please follow the following proce-
dure.

1. Connect HMI and computer with Ethernet cable.


2. Click “Start” and then “control panel”.
3. Double click on “Network connections”, following windows will be open.
4. Note that “Local Area Connection” need to be enabled before we can make TCP/IP settings. To enable
it right click and select Enable. If there is “Disable” option on right click then it is already enabled.

5. Right click on “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties”. The following window will be open

6. Double click on “TCP/IP Protocol” and following window will be open. Select “use the following IP ad-
dress”. Computer IP address is 192.168.0.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Click “OK” and OK again
on “Local Area connection properties”. Restart computer if it prompt to do so, otherwise TCP/IP settings
are now configured.

3. Transfering or Updating HMI program

After establishing sucessful communication between HMI and computer, the HMI program can be updated
or tranfered through computer. To transfer program to HMI please follow the steps below.

1. Open “Wincc flexible compact” program in your computer.


2. Click “File” and open the program you want to transfer to HMI.

3. Click “File”, select “Transfer” and then Click on “Transfer” again. Following window will open, where
please select “mode” as Ethernet and IP address needs to be same as HMI IP address.

option is unchecked.

name, passwords. Check
this option when uploading
an new program or user data
need to be updated.

please uncheck it all the
time.

4. Downloading program into PLC

1. connect computer with the main PLC unit via USB to RS485 converter. The RS485 connector will be
connectoed on PLC and USB connector will be connected to computer USB port.

2. Before we download program codes in PLC unit, we need to make sure if computer communicates with
PLC unit. please follow the steps below for proper settings for PLC.
3. Set toggle switch on “TERM” mode. If it is on “RUN” mode, the PLC will not communicate with PC at
all.
4. Open STEP7 Micro/WIN
5. Click on “File” and open a project.
6. Click on “Set PG/PC interface” on view column on right hand side. The following windows will open.

7. Select PC/PPI cable(PPI) in “Access Path” window. Then press properties on right. Following windows will
open. In PPI windows select the following values for “Station Parameters” and “Network Parameters”.

8. Select Local Connection in the same windows and choose USB

9. Click OK and OK again on PPI properties. PG/PC interface setting are now done.

10. Now go back to main STEP - 7 program and click on “Communication” above the “PG/PC interface”. The fol-
lowing window will open. Please do exactly the same setting in the following picture.

12. On successful search, program will show the following windows.

13. Now we can downlaod the PLC program in Niagara PLC main unit. Click on File and select “Download”

14. The following window will open after selecting the download. check the options below and click on “Down-
load”

• Recipes option must be checked if downloading program for the firt time or if
PLC program paramter needs to be updated.
• (Uncheck Recipes option if no PLC program parameters update required)

15. Following message will come up. Press OK and program will start downloading on PLC unit.

5. Toggle Switch settings on PLC (CPU)

RUN: Machine run on this mode. If this switch is on RUN mode, PLC and computer will not communicate.

TERM: To estabilsh communication between PLC and computer. Also this position is used when changing
PLC program parameters and see induvidual machine components operation.

STOP: This is to disable outputs of main PLC unit.
