Blog Journal #4 Armaan Ahuja

December 4 2023

This past 2 weeks have been eventful. I took off a gas tank, floor panels, and sanded a couple of
parts. I have taken off the engine and starting to take it apart.
My first week I took off the engine. this was a tough task I would have to take off separate
pulleys that are blocking the bolt. This pulley was held on by a strong spring, bolt, and bolt
cover. The bolt came off easy, but the bolt sleeve was tightly on. I had to get a punch the size of
the outer edge of the sleeve to tap it out. When I got the sleeve of the punch got stuck in the
hole. This was because of the spring pulling on the pulley. This spring is very big and dangerous,
as they could get sent flying at someone. I tried many ways to get of the spring but no of them
worked. I tried breaker bar, bending the spring, and breaking the body panel. None of them
worked, until Mr. Ekkert helped me. We apparently had a spring puller that is designed to take
off springs. We took off the spring and the punch, the pulley fell and we could take of the last
engine mount bolt. The last bolt was very tight and rusted. We tried WD-40 and heat neither of
them worked. We finally used a breaker bar to take the bolt off, but the bolt snapped. We now
must get a replacement bolt. After we got the engine off we had to take of the pulley on the
crankshaft. The first bolt holding on the pulley cam of easily but the second one caused me a
week of trouble. I drilled, lubed, welded, and used an extraction kit to get out this nut, but
nothing worked. I used a drill press to force the bolt out but it didn’t work either. I had tried
using a gear pulley and it finally came off and broke the gear puller. Next week I plan to clean
the inside of the engine and put it back on the tractor.
A problem that I face is currently the supersonic cleaner is broken so I will have to clean it
manually. Hopefully we get the switch for the cleaner before then.
