Self-management class 06/09/2022

For today's self-management class, we are going to work as follows:

Please watch the video of:

Why South Sea Pearls Are So Expensive | So Expensive | Business

Insider

Then, answer the following questions:

1. Why did/did not I like this video.

The process of creation of high quality pearls is something very handmade where the
families or people of a maritime zone can have a worthy source of work although the
margin of benefit for them is not so much, I do not like that great part of the benefit is
only for the jewelers.

2. Would I like to buy or have something with pearls someday? why?

I don't like pearls, fashion in general seems to me something super stupid and superfluous,
a very slow process even if it is a worthy source of work for many people, and oysters are
indispensable organisms for the purification of the seas and oceans.

3. How old must an oyster be for implantation to begin?

Low quality oysters can produce pearls in 3 months, but high quality oysters can take up to
5 years to obtain the first pearl, which is why the long waiting time makes their price so
high.

4. Why should they clean the oysters while they are being farmed?
About 75% of the oysters that are cultivated die, so it is very important to monitor and
care for the oysters, which are cleaned on the outside to prevent animals or predators
from feeding on them.

Also, please read one of the comments of the video, where a person gives his opinion about the
subject. What do you think of this comment?
It seems to me that the issue of translation is a delicate matter to convey ideas well, but it makes
clear the importance of taking care of oysters from pests and these comments enrich and enhance
the experience of listening to other languages and learning a language.
