‘The AD 2000 body of regulations can be applied to satisty 1.1
the basic safety requirements of the Pressure Equipment
Diroctive, principally for the conformity assessment in
accordance with modules “G" and "B + F°.
‘The AD 2000 body of regulations is structured along the lines.
of a sol-contained concept. If other technical rules are used
in accordance with the state of the art to solve related prob-
ems, itis assumed that the overall concept has been taken
into account,
This AD 2000-Merkblatt applies to accessories of pres-
sure vessels insofar as they are not covered by AD 2000-
Merkblatior A 6, A 401 oF A 409°)

2 Shut-off devices
2.1 Shutoff devices are, for example, valves, cocks, gate
valves.
2.2 Under operating conditions and assuming correct
operation and maintenance, it shall be possible, even after
lengthy service, to open and close shut-off devices easily
where they are to be operated by hand ~ without using
anything other than aids specified for the purpose. The
closing and opening forces shall be sulted to the design and,
operalion of the shut-off device.
Where spindles are used, the shutoff devices shall be
secured against unintentional removal of the spindle,
2.3 It shall be possible to isolate each pressure vessel from
the pressure supply line. The shutoff devices shallbe readily,
accessible. If pressure vessels are functionally connected 10
form an assembly, itis not necessary to be able to isolate
every vessel individually, just the assembly, Sentence does.
‘not apply to pressure vessels which are designed to be oper-
ated when open,
2.4. The requirements of 2.3 do not apply to
~ coolers and knockout vessels of compressors,
~ pressure vessels ited in piping, e.g. separators,
air receivers on pumps,
= silencers, filers, traps.
2.5. Asadeviation from 2.3, ashutoff device is not required
between a compressor or pump and pressure vessel if a
backflow of the charge material (fluid) to the pressure gen-
erator is prevented, e.g. by a non-return valve in the line, or
hy the type at working valves in the pressure generator
3. Pressure warning devices
3.1. Pressure warning devices are devices on the pressure
‘vessels by means of which itcan be established before open-
ing a pressure vessel whether or not a pressure difference
cexists between the vessel chamber and atmosphere,
3.2 Pressure vessels or pressure chambers which are
‘operated in the open condition as well as pressure vessels,
which can be individually isolated, or pressure chambers,
without individual pressure measuring equipment shal be fit-
ted with a pressure warning device
3.3 Subclause 3.2 does not apply to pressure chambers,
with automatic quick-acting closures as specified in 3.1.2.1
‘and 3.3.7 of AD 2000-Merkblatt A 5.
3.4. It shall not be possible for the pressure warning devices
to be rendered inoperative by the charge material (fluid)
They shall have a clearance of at least & mm.
4 Devices for draining precipitate liquid
4.1. Devices for draining precipitate liquid are generally val-
‘vos, cocks or condoneation tape which aro fitted at the
lowest point of the pressure vessel. In special cases, Immer-
sion pipes or draw-off devices which extend as far as pos-
sible into the pressure chambor are used.
4.2 Pressure vessels subject to precipitate liquid which can
‘damage the pressure vessel by liquid erosion, corrosion or
heat strass shall be fitted with devices to drain the precipitate
liquid. For horizontal pressure vessels in accordance with
sentence 1, an adequate slope shall be provided.
5 Sight-glasses as components of pressure
vessel walls
5.1. Sight-glasses which are components of pressure ves-
se| wails shall be designed and fited so that they can with-
stand the operating etroseoe.
5.2 The requirements specified in 5.1 are met in particular
if the sight-glasses comply with DIN 7080, DIN 7081, DIN,
£8902 or DIN 8903.
5.3. The sight-glass plates shall be fitted in such a way that,
this does not cause additional stress in the glass, This requl-
rement is met if, for example, sight-glass plates in flanged
holders are used as specified in DIN 28 120 or DIN26 121
5.4 Sight-giasses on pressure vessels shal, If necessary,
be specially protected against extemal influences, e.g. by &
protective cover or protective housing with a sealing cap.
6 Liquid level indicators and devices for re-
plenishment on heated pressure vessels
6.1 Heated pressure vessels where a drop in the level of
the liquid could give rise to unacceptable temperatures af the
vessel walls and pressure vessels for storing fiuids renderod
{dangerous in contact with water2) shall be filed with a device
to detect the level of the liquid (iquid level indicator)
6.1.1 Liquid level indicators are, for example:
(1) devices which make the level ofthe liquid directly visible
(level glasses),
(2) devices which provide indirect indication of the level o
the liquid, e.g. pneumatic or hydrostatic level indicators,
remote level indicators,
{) float-controlied indicating devices,
(4) dovices with an ionizing radiation output pulse.
6.1.2 The lowest level f liquid below which itis not possible
to operate without danger shall be indicated.
6.1.3 Liquid level indicators shall be ited so thatthe indica
tion is cleariy visible and that they cannot be rendered in-
operative by the charge material (fluid). it shall be possible
to check the functioning of the level indicator.
6.1.4. Piping connections between pressure vessels and
liquid level indicators shall have an aclequate clearance for
their functioning
6.1.5 It shall be possible to shut-off piping connections
between pressure vessels and level ylasses,
6.1.6 Liquid lovel indicators with tubes made of glass or
simiar fragile materials shall be protected against mechani
‘al damage. of shall be located or covered so that no one is,
‘endangered in event of a fracture.
5 Th requtamsns in 1 may dove fom te pron of ther EU mentorAD 2000-Merkblatt
6.1.7 Liquid level indicators with tubes made of glass or
similar fragile materials shall not be used for pressure ves
Sels containing combustible charge material (Mid),
6.1.8 The requirements of clause 5 also apply to the use
of sight-glasses in liquid level indicators.
6.1.9 Level glasses for pressure vessels other than those
indesignated in 6.1 shall also meet the requitements of 6.1.5
06.18.
5.2 Heated pressure vessels in which the level of the fluid
‘may fall and then lead to unacceptable temperatures in the
vessel walls shall have a device which automatically swit-
ches off and locks the heating system if the liquid falls below
the minimum level, or the wall temperature becomes excess-
ivoly high.
Itt isnot possible or practicable to switch the heating off, of
if an unacceptable temperature in the vessels walls cannot
bo prevented by switching it off, provision shall be made for
Topienishment devices to maintain the lowest fuid lovel
Where prossure vessels have replenishment devices, this
condition is met if, for example, the devices meet the require
ments of TRO 401 or 402,
6.3. Pressure vessels n accordance with paragraph 2 of 6.2
shall be fited with an alarm device which tiggers a visibie
0 2000 Manat A 44, 06.2001 etn Page 3
oF audible alarm before the fluid drops below the minimum
level
6.4 Heated pressure vessels as specified in 6.1, in which
‘an unacceptable temperature ofthe vessel walls can be avoi-
ded by switching off the heating need not be fitted with reple-
rishment devices described in 6.2 provided the liquid level
Indicator is tted win a rellabie device which automatically
switches off the heating if the liquid drops below the lowest,
level. Verification of the reliability shall be deemed to have
been provided i, for example, the device has been subjected,
toa type test.
7 Furnace equipment for liquid, gaseous or
powdered fuels
7A Furnace equipment for liquid, gaseous or powdered
{uels shall be arranged so that they can be ignited and oper-
ated without detonations, explosions, flame blowback or dan-
(erous pressure surgas (s60 also 6.6) of annex lof the PED),
7.2. For furnace equipment comparable with furnace equip-
‘ment for steam boilers, the requirements of 7.1 are met, for
‘example, Ifthe provisions of the following are followed, where
