A Richman's Love Story

Of course, written by Tony Rebater

Once, in a town named San Marcello, there was a rich landowner who managed a
vast amount of land and fisheries. His name is Maximiliano, and his workers call him
"Don Max". He is a simple yet very kind hearted man, and he is very known in that
town. He gave many properties to the landless, and his fisheries to those who
wished to have a livelihood. But he has a habit in his works, that he does all of his
good deeds secretly, and even prohibits mentioning it to anyone, even their spouses.
Even the town's Parish Priest, Fr. Bernabe lied to the Bishop about the land donated
by him for an orphanage, saying that it was from an "anonymous" benefactor.

Times passed, and more people grew so fond of him, that he even visited his
workers in their homes to provide what they needed. He had a wife and 3 children.
His eldest and second children married and had their own families and their own
charitable works, keeping in their father's teachings. One day, Dr. Berlusconi called
about his recent check-up. The doctor stated that he will live in a shorter term due to
his heart. When he knew it, he informed his family about it and all of a sudden,
sadness and mourning were felt in their home. Sandra, the youngest daughter of
Don Max, cried and even locked in her room for a long time. She even exclaimed,
"This is not happening, this is my turn to care for them, but for a longer period!" Don
Max felt worried, as her youngest will soon get old, alone. He had an plan to prevent
this: he will give a massive acres of his property and a large amount of his wealth to
the one who will convince his daughter to marry her. "A dying man will think of that"
shockingly said by his wife, Antonia. "It must be, there's no time," Don Max
exclaimed.

The whole town of San Marcello heard about the news, many men came to be
Sandra's suitors, even sons of other rich men, not only from the town, but also from
neighboring cities. Though the line of her suitors became longer in days, she didn't
consider them to be her spouse, and many men lost their hope, until there was none
who attempted to court her. He told his father that "I will only pick the one who will
love her and not the one who wants the prize."

One day, Sandra went out with her cousins Gio and Marie. There she saw her true
love, in a simple human form, a fast food employee named Fran. Her cousin Gio
called Fran and said, "Ey, you look at my kid cousin? Well if you don't, just to say
she's lookin' for you a loooooong time ago." She stared only at him during their meal.
They bonded with her cousins and went home, when she realized she left her
special brooch in the restaurant. There she was sitting on the chair in their balcony
with her father, when she saw a running man in a fast food worker's hat. As he
approaches, Sandra recognizes the man who runs in their yard. It was Fran who
kept it and had the guts to come to their hacienda, which has large dogs guarding
the gates. He is then chased by security, but fails to catch him. Don Max immediately
halted the security, and let Fran talk to her daughter. He then called Fran to talk
privately. "You know, as I saw the eyes of Sandra, I knew she is a victim also of love
at first sight" frail but jokingly exclaimed. "Do you love my daughter?" He asked. Fran
answered, "yes sir, it's not all about the money, but I also fell in love with her the time
she entered the restaurant where I work." "Well congratulations, son. You won my
daughter's heart!" Don Max said.

Time passed, and Fran kept courting Sandra, they eventually married each other and
had two sets of twins. All of this happened before the death of Don Max. He died
months after his 90th birthday, which they said was a miracle given to the state of the
late old man's health. They lived in simplicity and continued her father's legacy, with
her spouse, the love of her life.
