SEMESTER-II Course Handout Date: 08/01/2024

Course No : MA3205

Course title : Measure Theory and Integration Credit-4(3-1-0)

Instructor In-charge : Dr. Dibakar Dey

Syllabus

 Algebra of sets, rings, fields, sigma-rings and sigma fields of sets, Lebesgue outer measure and
Lebesgue measure, properties of measurable sets, measurable functions, Borel and Lebesgue
measurability.
 Lebesgue Integral of bounded function, Comparison of Riemann and Lebesgue integral,
Convergence theorems – Monotone Convergence Theorem, Dominated Convergence Theorem
and Fatou’s Theorem, Integral of non-negative functions, General Lebesgue integral, Relation
between differentiation and integration – Functions of Bounded variations.
Scope

 To learn the fundamentals of measure theory.

 To learn an advanced level of integration.

Objective

 To develop skills so that student might be able to handle problems arising in real analysis.
 To fill the gap that we counter while studying integral calculus.
