JOB DESCRIPTION
SENIOR NURSING OFFICER (NURSING SUPERVISOR)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Manages and coordinates nurse schedule in co-ordination with nursing in-charges


 Analyses nurse patients ratio and reviews the patient assignment of nursing officers
 Allocates and arranges patient bed in case of non- availability
 Coordinate admission and discharges in the wards
 Ensures all nursing activities are taking place in a given area which includes handing
over/taking over, bed bath to all bed ridden patients, 4 th hourly positioning of the
patients etc.
 Verifies appropriate storage of high risk drugs.
 Prepares the schedule to check the linen count, inventory check in every given nursing
counter in co-ordination with ward in-charges and update to Assistant Nursing
Superintendent.
 Actively participate in reporting incident reports, ADR reports and materiovigilance
report to the immediate authority
 Collects data required for the Nursing audit and if any change in the process will
guides to implement
 Encourages and motivates the Nursing officers to attend the training session and to do
the online courses.
 Maintains professional conduct and decorum in the unit
 Responsible for all the safety and materiovigilance in the assigned area
 Any staff related issues are solved if not escalates it to the higher authority.
 Responsible for identification of the training need and gap analysis
 Performs daily rounds and ensures adequate nursing officers in each shift
 Supervises nurses clinical performance on the field and ensures good patient care,
responsible for clinical documentation and take corrective actions
 Update nursing officer on the clinical concerns in the field and address them smoothly
 Conducts monthly audit on International patient safety goals
 Captures risk assessment
 Ensures adherence to all relevant nursing standards
 Ensures compliance with nursing policies and procedures
 Trains novice nursing officers
 Promotes and restores patients health by developing day-ti-day management and long-
term planning of the patient care
 Mentors staff including job expectations and provides performance reviews
 Collaborates with health care providers and multidisciplinary professional staff to
implement patient care.
 Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigns
 Verifies the quality indicators done by the ward in-charges
 Evaluates the nursing officers engagement with patient care
 Provides input on staff attrition
 Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological
support to the nursing officers
 Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection control
policies and protocols
 Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient medical records.
 Establishes a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating
information, responding requests and participating in team problem-solving methods.
