ZUNGERU HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT
According to the water consumption , the pressure requirement and the water head of the
project, pressure reducing mode will be used for cooling water supply system.
The temperature of cold cooling water will be considered as 30°C, the assumption of temperature
difference between cold and hot water will not exceed 5 °K.
References are made to “Schematic diagram of cooling water System (D-ME-HM-01 R1) and
Schematic diagram of transformer and HAVC equipments wate supply system (D-ME-HM-02 R1)”.
According to the water consumption and the pressure requirement, in order to ensure the
reliability of water supply, independent pump water supply mode will be used for HVAC
equipments cooling water supply system.
The temperature of cold cooling water will be considered as 30°C, the assumption of temperature
difference between cold and hot water will not exceed 5 °K.
References are made to Schematic diagram of transformer and HAVC equipments wate supply
system (D-ME-HM-02 R2)”.
The flow velocity in cooling water pipes shall in general around 2.0~3.0 m/s to avoid sand
sedimentation and over abrasion. However, as pressure reducing mode is used for cooling water
sysytem, the flow velocity can be increased to 3.0~5.0 m/s for facilitating pressure reducing in
cooling water pipes before reducing valves. The flow velocity after reducing valves shall be
adopted to 2.0~3.0 m/s.

The net head of pump should be greater than the elevation difference He between the elevation
of pipe outlet and elevation of tailrace water level with the addition of head loss of pump pipes
and valves Hc (Hc=4.36+1.86=6.22m).
Hn> Hc + He+Hco=6.22+14.94+15=36.16m
Where , He= 148.80-133.86=14.94m, 148.80 m is the elevation of pipe intet of HAVC equipments
coolers, 133.86m is the tailrace water level (one unit operation with 220m3/h flow);
So, Hn=37m
Where ,
In consideration of some margin and series of motor, the power of pump motor will be chose to
110 kW:
