ZUNGERU HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT

According to the water consumption , the pressure requirement and the water head of the
project, pressure reducing mode will be used for cooling water supply system.

The temperature of cold cooling water will be considered as 30°C, the assumption of temperature
difference between cold and hot water will not exceed 5 °K.

References are made to “Schematic diagram of cooling water System (D-ME-HM-01 R1) and
Schematic diagram of transformer and HAVC equipments wate supply system (D-ME-HM-02 R1)”.

3.2 MODE OF WATER SUPPLY FOR HVAC EQUIPMENTS

The toal water consumption for the HVAC equipments and Air compressors of Condenser Air
System is around 652m3/h , the pressure requirement of the Main transformers , HAVC
equipments and Air compressors cooling water system will be chose to 0.1~0.15MPa for HVAC
equipments, and the water head of this hydropower station is 72m to 96.501m.

According to the water consumption and the pressure requirement, in order to ensure the
reliability of water supply, independent pump water supply mode will be used for HVAC
equipments cooling water supply system.

The temperature of cold cooling water will be considered as 30°C, the assumption of temperature
difference between cold and hot water will not exceed 5 °K.

References are made to Schematic diagram of transformer and HAVC equipments wate supply
system (D-ME-HM-02 R2)”.

4 CALCULATIONS OF DIAMETER OF PIPES

4.1 FLOW VELOCITY IN PIPES

The flow velocity in cooling water pipes shall in general around 2.0~3.0 m/s to avoid sand
sedimentation and over abrasion. However, as pressure reducing mode is used for cooling water
sysytem, the flow velocity can be increased to 3.0~5.0 m/s for facilitating pressure reducing in
cooling water pipes before reducing valves. The flow velocity after reducing valves shall be
adopted to 2.0~3.0 m/s.

EQUIPMENTS:

References are made to “Schematic diagram of cooling water System (D-ME-HM-01 R1) and
Schematic diagram of transformer and HAVC equipments wate supply system (D-ME-HM-02 R1)”.

The pipe diameter is calculated by the formula as below:

3600V

where,

D is inside diameter of the water supply pipe (mm)

Q is the cooling water consumption of equipments (m3/h);

V is the water flow velocity in the piping system, the flow velocity after reducing valves shall be
adopted to 2.0~3.0 m/s, the flow velocity before reducing valves could be adopted to 3.0~5.0
m/s.

6 CALCULATIONS OF PUMP FOR HAVC EQUIPEMNTS

6.1 CACULATIONS OF PUMP NET HEAD:

The net head of pump should be greater than the elevation difference He between the elevation
of pipe outlet and elevation of tailrace water level with the addition of head loss of pump pipes
and valves Hc (Hc=4.36+1.86=6.22m).

So, The net head of pump Hn:

Hn> Hc + He+Hco=6.22+14.94+15=36.16m

Where , He= 148.80-133.86=14.94m, 148.80 m is the elevation of pipe intet of HAVC equipments
coolers, 133.86m is the tailrace water level (one unit operation with 220m3/h flow);

In consideration of some margin, the head of pump will be chose to 37m.

So, Hn=37m

6.2 THE POWER OUTPUT OF PUMP MOTOR

6.2.1 The shaft power of pump

Q𝑝 × 𝐻𝑛 × 𝑔 × 𝜌 652 × 37 × 9.781 × 1000

𝑁 = = = 87.39𝑘𝑊
3600 × 𝜂 × 1000 3600 × 0.75 × 1000

Where ,

N is the shaft power of pump,

g is the gravitational acceleration, g=9.781m/s2,

 is the density of water,  =1000 kg/m3,

 is the efficiency of pump, here chose to  =0.75.

6.2.2 The power of pump motor

𝑃 = 1.25 × 𝑁 = 1.25 × 87.39 = 109.24𝑘𝑊

In consideration of some margin and series of motor, the power of pump motor will be chose to
110 kW:

Document no: C-ME-HM-009R3 Revision status: 03 Date Printed: Oct. 2018

Page 13 of 15
ZUNGERU HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT

So, P=110 kW.
