Abstract:

In this report, I talked about Bourdon Tube pressure gauge which is the
equipment in name of HM 150 .02 and the basic understanding about Bourdon
tube the definition of it, pros and cons, the application of Bourdon tube pressure
gauge, also to determine the mass of (holder, ring, weight).

Introduction

The Bourdon Tube is a nonliquid pressure measurement device. It is widely used

in applications where inexpensive static pressure measurements are needed.

A typical Bourdon tube contains a curved tube that is open to external pressure
input on one end and is coupled mechanically to an indicating needle on the other
end, as shown schematically below.

The external pressure is guided into the tube and causes it to flex, resulting in a
change in curvature of the tube. These curvature changes are linked to the dial
indicator for a number readout. Alternatively, a strain gage circuit can be
attached on the tube to convert the pressure-induced deflections into electric
voltage signals. These signals can then be output electronically, rather than
mechanically with the dial indicator

Objective
To determine the mass of (holder, ring, weight)
and calibration the error of the gauge.

Calculation
Calculation
. Holder 2. Ring 3. Weigh
P Holder = 0.334 bar= 0.334 105 N/m2
P Ring+holder = 0.334+0.166= 0.5 bar= 0.5*105 N/m2
P Ring+holder+weigh=0.5+0.5= 1 bar= 1*105 N/m2
Diameter of piston=12mm
Radius of piston =6mm= 6*10-3 m
Area of circle = πr
2= π*(6*10-3
) =1.13*10-4
m=PA/g
1. mholder= (0.334*105
)*(1.13*10-4
)/9.81= 384g
2. mholder+ring= (0.5*105
)*(1.13*10-4
)/9.81= 567g
mring= mholder+ring-mholder= 567-384= 183g
3. mT= (1*105
)*(1.13*10-4
)/9.81=1151g
mweigh= mT-mholder+ring= 1151-567= 584g

Discussion

Absolute pressure is measured relative to a full vacuum. In contrast, pressure

that is measured against atmospheric pressure (also known as barometric
pressure) is called gauge pressure. A full vacuum has an absolute pressure
reading of 0 PSIA, The Bourdon tube is an almost rectangular or elliptical
cross-section tube made from materials such as stainless steel or phosphor
bronze, on a given surface. The applied pressure can be measured as absolute,
gauge or differential pressure. Pressure can be measured directly by
measurement of the applied force or indirectly, e.g. by the measurement of the
gas properties. Advantages of Bourdon tube pressure gauge are Bourdon tube
cost low. Bourdon tube are simple in construction. They can be modified to
give electrical outputs. They are safe even for high pressure measurement.
Accuracy is high especially at high pressures

Conclusion:
From this experiment we learnt how to calculate the error of pressure gauge and
also calculate the mass of each weight, also we understand basic concept of
bourdon pressure gauge and application of it, also pros and cons.
