SLEEP DEPRIVATION IN ADOLESCENTS

INTRODUCTION

The human body needs a set of processes to be able to fulfill its mission, such as eating,
exercising, not smoking, etc. And, in our opinion, you also need to rest to fulfill part of a
physiological life process. To better understand this, there is something called the circadian
cycle made up of wakefulness (or being awake) and sleep. Circadian cycle is one that occurs
every 24 hours

TEXT

In adolescents, understanding as such the passage from child to adulthood, sleep is something
basic, necessary and that contributes to excellent health, but it has been proven that, at these
ages, strong alterations occur in the body, such as poor sleep, which causes learning disorders,
behavior disorders in the young and disorders in their hormones. Writings and analysts and
studies on this subject say that sleep is a necessary physiological process, during which the
subject is not easily in contact with the environment, at a conscious level; This supposed
unconsciousness, in our opinion, causes a mental rest in us that facilitates rest or what is
colloquially called “recharging the batteries”. Also, sleeping, allows us to control the rhythm of
the temperature and, the control of the growth hormone
If we start to analyze the main causes of sleep deprivation, we agree with those who think that
they are due to changes in habits and the regulation of the norms that exist in our society, which
we will comment on next:
Among the changes in habits we have: Getting used to being up until the wee hours of the
morning watching movies or "chatting" with friends, which did not happen before; leaving
tasks for late at night or sleeping with the light on and those referring to the regulation of social
norms: Attending several days of the week to adolescent or adult parties or Smoking that
disturbs the nerves and does not allow sleep

CONCLUSIONS

1.- Sleeping is part of a healthy life and doing it on time helps adolescents to develop their
organs in a normal way; also helps control the temperature rhythm
2.- Sleeplessness or getting used to being awake during the hours in which we must sleep is
detrimental to health because it takes time for the brain to rest
3.- Not sleeping at normal hours, has a high impact on growth hormone, causing problems in
the development of the adolescent and preventing them from acquiring their normal height
4.- Lack of sleep leads the body to raise cortisol levels, obesity and early diabetes as well as an
increase in anxious and even depressive behaviors
5.- It also contributes to poor academic performance and low memory capacity
6.- Most of the causes that produce a poor quality of sleep are due to bad sleeping habits and an
inappropriate life structure and organization of schedules in many cases.
