I – OBJECTIVES : At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:

1. Explain the performance practice during the Renaissance Period.


2. Performs selected songs from Renaissance Period.
3. Appreciate the beauty and value the importance of the music of Renaissance
Period through the performance of its music.

II – SUBJECT MATTER:

TOPIC: MUSIC OF THE RENAISSANCE


REFERENCE: MAPEH 9 – LM & TG p.11-20
MATERIALS: power point, video lesson etc.

III – PROCEDURE:
A. Introduction/Activity :
 Prayer
 Checking of attendance/short review
 Activity 1 : Word Equation (Motivation)

Characteristics of Renaissance music
 Mostly polyphonic
 Imitation among the voices is common ( e.g, Kyrie )
 Use of word painting in texts and music (e.g GLORIA)
 SACRED music -are the religious music while SECULAR music is the non -
religious music during this era/period.
 Two types of VOCAL MUSIC during Renaissance period
Mass – a form of sacred musical composition
Madrigal – a secular vocal polyphonic music composition originated
from Italy

D. Application:
1. Listening Activity: Classify Me
Classify the type of vocal music of the Renaissance period that will be played,
either MASS, a sacred music or MADRIGAL, a secular vocal polyphonic music.

IV - EVALUATION : Performance Task : Sing Me


Instruction: Sing selected songs from Renaissance period, either a sacred
musical composition (MASS) or a secular vocal polyphonic music
composition (MADRIGAL) video and record your performance at least 2-
3minutes and submit it via online. You will be singing in a group of four
members.
