Itinerary
Arrival day | Reykjavík

Enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the city, its museums, shops, restaurants and
landmarks such as the Harpa Concert and Conference Centre by the harbour and
Hallgrímskirkja church. The Airport Direct shuttle will transfer you to your
accommodation in Reykjavík from Keflavik Airport upon arrival. Optional, and not
included in the price, is to pick up the rental car at the airport when you arrive.

Day 1 | The South - inland and coast

Visit Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of great historical and
geological importance, the Geysir hot spring area with its fabulous erupting Strokkur
and the beautiful two-tiered Gullfoss Waterfall. Head to the South Coast travelling
through the green farmland area known for one of Iceland's most popular Sagas, Njal's
Saga. Visit the LAVA Center, a thrilling volcano exhibition. View Seljalandsfoss
Waterfall which you can also walk behind if you wish! Continue to the magnificent
waterfall and interesting folk museum at Skógar, admiring the vast black sands and tall
cliffs along the way.

Day 2 | Vatnajökull National Park

Enjoy the wonderful glacier vistas and many walking and hiking options at Skaftafell.
Marvel at the floating icebergs at the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón. Various types of glacier
tours on Vatnajökull Glacier can be booked in advance.

Day 3 | The Eastfjords

Relish the marvellous views of tall and often uniquely formed mountains en route to the
Eastfjords. Visit the many quaint fishing villages such as Djúpivogur and Eskifjörður with
their colourful old houses and harbours. Explore the area around Egilsstaðir including

Day 4 | Húsavík or Lake Mývatn

Choose between going on a whale watching tour from the charming harbour town of
Húsavík (limited in winter) and exploring the canyons, rock formations and waterfalls
within the northern part of Vatnajökull National Park. Or discover Lake Mývatn's
beautiful scenery, varied bird - and plantlife, mystical lava formations, steaming
geothermal sites and enjoy a relaxing dip in the Nature Baths.

Day 5 | Akureyri and the North

View the beautiful Goðafoss ('Waterfall of the Gods') en route to Akureyri town which
has enjoyable goethermal swimming pools, parks and museums. Tour the Skagafjörður
district known for its horse breeding. Visit the farmhouse museum at Glaumbær and the
old turf church at Víðimýri. Explore the sites of the Húnaþing district including the Seal
Centre at Hvammstangi, Vatnsdalshólar hills and Kolugljúfur Canyon.

Day 6 | The West

Discover the lovely Borgarfjörður district. Climb the old crater Grábrók, view
Hraunfossar and Barnafossar falls, the powerful Deildartunguhver hot spring, historic
Reykholt and the Settlement Centre in Borgarnes before heading back to Reykjavík.
