COMMONWEALTH
The Commonwealth is an
association of countries across the
world. Although it was historically
connected to the British Empire, any
country can apply to be a member of
the Commonwealth, regardless of its
intersection with Britain’s colonial
past.
The Commonwealth of Nations was
formed
in 1949 to maintain an association
between
countries that had once been part of the
British colonies, but which were
considered
free and equal.
The Commonwealth consists
of 54 countries:

fireworks display at the local park. Many towns, cities and schools also hold their own
Carols by Candlelight services, with local bands and choirs sometimes helping to
perform the Christmas Carol.
