Upper and lower bearings Because the upper and lower bearings support the flywheel rotat-
ing at high speed, they are subjected to heavy loads and high tem-
peratures. Therefore, the glycol pump circulates coolant to reduce
the temperature of these bearings.
Vacuum pump The vacuum pump creates a specific grade of vacuum state inside
the gyro sphere to minimize air resistance generated when the fly-
wheel rotates.
Hydraulic cylinders Two hydraulic cylinders are used to brake and control the preces-
sion movement of the sphere.
When the user wants to lock precession, the system applies a brake
to the gyro sphere by blocking oil flow within the cylinders. In this
condition no antiroll torque is generated by the gyro.

Note:
- If the seawater pump is connected to a cir-
cuit other than the gyro system, turn on the
power to operate the seawater pump.
- If you connect the seawater pump directly
to the gyro system, the system will also acti-
vate the seawater pump when the flywheel
reaches about 300 RPM (it takes about 3
minutes to reach this speed).

Troubleshooting chart
The following table summarizes the actions that can be taken once an anomaly occurs in the gyro
system.
*1. When the DC power is restored, the system automatically returns to the standby state.
Therefore, to resume normal operation, press the power (ON/OFF) icon.
*2. Precession is permitted as long as the flywheel speed remains above 55 % of full speed.
